I've got an interview tomorrow with the local BMW dealership for the position of sales executive. I was just wondering does anyone here work in a similar field or for another BMW dealership ?

If so, what are the benefits if any and what is the structure of your average day ?

I've worked as an Estate Agent for the past 4 years and fancied a change. I've always shown a great interest in cars and everything car related so im quite excited about it all !

In this current climate any sales organisation is going to be looking to hire sales staff who can increase sales rather than just keep things ticking over. It's a real tough sell out there at the moment so you will have to show you are competent in quickly assessing a potential customers requirements, matching them up to the most suitable vehicle in your product range, taking them for a good quality test drive - over several days if necessary for a high value sale and a high net worth client - then finally being able to incentivise the customer to close the sale as soon as possible.

So I think you should go in there prepared to ask questions about their sales cycle, how the typical day goes, what they are doing to get the few customers out there in through their door - rather than Mercedes or Lexus. Show a real interest in the business, the product and the sales cycle and you should be in good standing with the interviewer.

Good luck.

Jeez good luck with that, a jobs a job but its not a field I'd want to be going into right now

Surely it cant be much worse than being an estate agent at the moment.

Not so sure. Estate agents are still selling a house per week which although is down 50% from the peak of 1.5 houses per week, it's still a reasonable living. In fact house sales were up again in January.

New car sales are at the lowest since 1996 and have fallen 39% in the last two quarters with another 20% projected for the next quarter.

So both sectors hard hence my "out of the frying pan into the fire" comment.

I love sales based jobs but Estate Agency is just driving me insane atm, hence wanting a change. Also, I have been keeping an eye on what income is coming into the office an fear that I may not have a job at this place much longer.

Ive a cousin that works in bmw and around 12 sales staff have been given the boot so far from the place she works at, basically because the place is dead. :o

Wearing a cheap suit and pretending to know about cars in order to stiff people with crap finance deals to save 30p a month on road tax.

Do BMW do any cars which save 30p a month on road tax?
