How long do you keep milk for?

It's a moot point for me really. A 4 pinter will last us a day, unless we're cooking quite a few things that require milk too then we use a bit more. Also, by "a day" I mean it'll last for morning coffee the next day, but then it's gone.

Until it is finished normally but I'll almost always give the milk a quick sniff to check that it is ok regardless of whether I bought it that day or if it has been sitting in the fridge for a few days.

"consume within x days" is usually a load of rubbish

it says that on juice cartons, but i've had some orange juice that's been in the fridge for over a month since i opened it and it's fine.

i use milk until it smells funny and/or is seperating

In my house, a 4 pint, once opened is nearly finished by the second day.
But always smell and take a little sip to check before chucking it down after 3 days.

either untill it tastes bad or smells bad. depends what I'm using it for.

The taste turns before the smell. So it rules it out for cereal but is still fine for stuff where the taste is masked.
