evenin' all, looking for any assistance in choosing an x58 mobo for a new build please :D

currently have an i7 920, EVGA geforce 295, corsiar 6gb 1600mhz ddr3 to stick in it, but no idea which make of x58 to take. Im looking for a mobo that can utilise the 1600mhz, but also has the availability for up to 12gb ram for future upgrades. Really liked the look of the Foxconn Bloodrage but it only has 3 dimm slots which is a real let-down.

planning to use it for a little overclocking (most likely only the cpu), preferrably with little or no extra cooling than an antec 1200 and the board can provide.

also i only have a copy of win xp at the moment, which i assume cant make use of all that ram? Is it really worth getting a copy of vista 64bit when windows 7 is on the horizon? Cant really afford both.

Budget is around £220-320 for the board

Thanks :p

Been reading ok reviews of the R2E, but people have been commenting on trouble with fitting sound cards, as the slot can be blocked by the northbridge. Im planning on getting an X-Fi titanium fatality so it'll need room to fit one of those too.

no my board is fine and im happy with it but for the extra cost that you pay for a re2 you dont get that much extra....so i would go with either the p6t or evga personally...the support over at evga is the best out of any x58 board!

Also the evga you can go tri sli if you want to,on the rampage 2 you cannot go tri as the usb cable socket and other sockets on the main board get in the way...the rampage 2 is not the "big bad board" it has claimed to be...for overclocking its great but i think it could have been designed that little bit better espsecially as its expensive

ASUS P6T (not deluxe) or XFX X58 - don't spend a huge amount of money on one, they're really not that much better clockers. I have those two boards and a Gigabyte EX-X58-UD5 and they are all much of a muchness. They all do 4.2GHz with the same good CPU and 4 or 3.8GHz with the less good CPUs.

I wouldn't spend a lot on a Rampage to be honest.

basically you choose out of p6t,evga and gigabyte...if i was you i would wait till the new x58 boards come out.....read up and you will see...as for on the fly overclocking i dont use it as i think all overclocking should be done from the bios...bios==the brain, more stability etc....overclocking on the fly from windows is just a nice gimmick in my opinion...you dont need it essentially

Hmmm, what's the deal with the new x58s? My pc died last week so im looking to replace it asap. I guess any new revisions are gonna be out around summer and i cant wait that long to replace my dead one :(

if your cannot wait then choose your board whatever you think,i dont think you can go wrong with a p6t,or evga as there seems to be loads of support for these boards and many many people have overclocked them.....its up to you....i dont know much about the gigabyte.....go read there official forums to see on all x58 boards...take your time researching it......the information that you need is out there....you just need to take the time out to find it and read it:)

I currently have an Asus p6t Deluxe OC and i love it.
I to took a long hard look at the X58 boards and most appear to be the same at the mo.

I've got a Gigabyte Extreme coming tomorrow, and msut say the more I read about it, the more impressed I am by little additions that ok, don't necessarily help with overclocks but are cool none the less.

Like the clear cmos button on the back panel (like the rampage), aswell as power on and reset switches actually on the mobo itself. Also southbridge water blocks as standard and everything colour coded so you can easily see which two pci-e slots are the 16x and which is the 8x etc.. again nothing groundbreaking but can't wait to get my hands on it.

But would be tempted to have got the EVGA *** edition but, time and maybe cost would be a huge factor.

Aye the EVGA F-T-W edition, should be out in March last time I heard but was going to be rather pricey £300-- ish

Seems the filter stars it out

It's now called EVGA Classified.

Supposed to have been by now but apparantly there is some last minute fix's etc and might be ready for release next few weeks.
