The Nokia 5800 Express Media (Tube) Thread

How are people generally finding this phone? I've tried it a couple of times but it felt a little bit 'clunky'. I'm hoping it's just a case of getting used to it, and how the interface works?

Also, does everyone get a years free acces to the Nokia music store? Or was that just a rumour?

I've wangled a good deal out of TMobile, it's now just a case of them having it in stock!

i'm still loving mine, its so damn satisfying to use!! i'm still not sure of the network branded ones though. get a sim free one like i did to be safe.

One problem I am having is my handsfree ear piece keeps disconnecting from the phone. I'm not sure how to keep it connected.

I'm having this issue too with the Bluetooth in the BMW. Keeps dropping out even when not in a call and reconnecting. Most annoying, especially when in a call. I wonder if new firmware addresses this?

Has anyone with a 5800 managed to update to latest firmware on o2?

I've been checking regulary and it doesn't show the latest update, reckons mine is latest which I know it isn't :(

Has anyone found any decent apps that work on theres?

I have worldmate on mine which I think is pretty good but I want something that will allow me to choose a more local city for weather reports, closest city I can choose on this is sheffield which is pretty far tbh.

Have tried installing windows live messenger but it wont start.

My garmin software wont work on the new symbian OS either.

Pretty annoyed really as main reason I chose this over the non smart phones was so I could use 3rd party apps but I cant get much running on it :(

There is an update from the Garmin site for the Mobile XT to run on the 5800.

Also do any of you lot have the gap in the top right of the case?

Yer, I have a bit of a gap there as well.

Just put BBC Iplayer on and it runs ok, watching last nights Top Gear repeat atm :)

Will have to try the updated Garmin software and see if it installs.

Managed to get MSN working, well sort of.

Using an app called slick, does a few different IM's and it works surprisingly well, I can even transfer files from my phone to my contacts in messenger!

Found an app that gives more local weather reports too called accuweather.

No case myself. Just using the Martin Shields screen protector.

Haven’t been able to update firmware just yet (t-mobile), guess it hasn't been released for UK models. From the Symbian forums, the only way to do it is to change your product code on the phone. However, this voids warranty so I'm just going to wait.

I also have the gap on the top right, but it’s a very small gap. It had been reported that with the earlier models, there was an issue with the ear speaker & the gap...something along the lines of moisture getting through and then the contacts on the microphone messing up.

Nokia have changed suppliers for the ear speaker so this shouldn't be a problem anymore. I haven’t got any issues so far. But if anyone is having trouble hearing the person on the other end then this could be the possible culprit in which case take it to a service centre.

Look forward to the new firmware as some cool new features. But others have reported some bugs. So I'm just going to wait until it’s officially available in the UK.

Hmmm, having come from an N95 and being due an upgrade next week I'm really not sure whether to get this or wait to get the N97.

In terms of processing power will the 5800 be able to run TomTom, Opera Mini and Gmail ok?

I can just see the N97 being put back miles and being fairly expensive on release to upgrade to.

I am really interested in this phone. Originally I was looking at SE because I love the walkman range, still using my trusty W810i.

I'm not sure what provider to go with. My friend says he knows someone who can do the 'friends and family' 30% off contracts in o2. I don't really want to be spending more than £25 a month, but I also want to be able to use the internet on it for free, msn etc. Is this possible for the £25? o2 currently have 18 months 200mins/400 texts/unlimited o2 calls for £24.48.

My current provide is Orange and I am on payg. They currently have on their website a March offer. £24.46, 18 months, 600mins/unlimited texts. (no internet/data). I wonder if I could squeeze the internet addon out of them as I have been with them for 8 years or so payg.

edit,

or mobiles.co.uk has the phone on o2, 18month contract - 14 months 1/2 price line rental. £35 a month, 600min/unlimited texts. Shame there is no data/internet option.

Any advice?

Whatever happens stay away from Vodafone, I've been waiting 3 weeks for them to get enough stock in to send me one. Others have been waiting longer and Vodafone won't say when they are getting more stocks in :(

£35 per month tariff can have unlimited internet instead of the texts, would need to phone o2 as soon as you get it and ask to change the bolt on.
