just asked my gf about Soi cowboy, she didnt know about it. I'm heading over in June so maybe you can give me advice later :D

Don't fall in love with a prostitute, and don't use prostitutes as your benchmark for what Thai women are like.

Then what advice are you looking for? It's a place with loads of bars and prostitutes...

So have you ever been? I imagine someone who had actually been there would have a thing or two to say about it more than that. Particularly regarding commonly practiced scams and which bars are worth going to (or avoiding) etc.

I don't think this forum is the place to be asking how much you should pay for a whore and how much to tip, and whether or not you need to watch out for your wallet.

Anyway, to me, the place was just a brightly-lit street full of bars, tourists and prostitutes. Not an amazing place when you can understand what they are saying to each other and how hollow that makes the whole charade feel.

Anyway, if you're just buying beers, don't pay extortionate prices. If something sounds too good to be true, it is. Don't buy gems, no famous places are closed, if a tuk-tuk is offering to take you somewhere for free it's a bit risky.

Just out of curiosity, why would your girlfriend know about it? Is she Thai?

Perhaps she's an international travel writer for sex tourists :D Though if she doesn't know she can't be a good one.

+1

A lot of Thai women get a bad name cause of all this stuff. When in actual fact a lot of them are great people :)

Personally the Soi Cowboy doesn't appeal to me, I can see why some people would want to go there though. I'll ask my friend more about it when she comes on line tomorrow.

I've been although I'm not sure what kind of advice your'e seeking.

I can't remember the names of any bars there but one of them that we went in had the usual dancers etc but also had a glass ceiling with about 20 girls dancing on the next floor, none were wearing knickers :D

The only thing I can say is don't offend any girls (or boys) that pester you and just politely turn them away.

Anyone been?

I'm off to Bangkok in April. Love to hear from anyone who has already been and can give advice.

And for those who've never heard of soi cowboy...

;)

90% of those women in the vids are hookers, probably with a kid or two, who are forced to work at these places in order to make more money from folks who go there for the easy sex they can't just quite get in real-life. Very sad, and while i'm not against prostitution in principle (oldest profession and all that), I find the sort in Thailand of among the lowest order.
