Crazy:- Fined for low power useage?!!

Hardly a fine..

As with anything the less you buy the more per unit you pay.

It's like saying
"OCUK fined me for only buying 1 cpu.. I would have got it cheaper if I had purchased 20"

Its not a lot of money I know but still you would think that saving energy is a good thing. Well not for the energy companies of course who will milk who ever they can even if you dont use the energy.

I agree, however your comparison doesn't really work, as you wouldn't get them cheaper if you buy 20, I don't think OcUK do bulk discounts :p

She should have read the terms and conditions...

Exactly.

I hate how so many people resort to complaining when the information is made readily available for them.

I used to work for a health insurance company, and whilst I hated the company's attitude towards trying to avoid paying claims, I got so many complaints from customers about things that we already told them in their documentation/handbooks etc.

Their comeback was always "You don't expect people to read those things do you?"

Well.....yes actually, you ****ing idiot!

I deal with people who do not read T&C's as well, it infuraites me to think MD's of companies do not read these things when they are presented to them, and then moan "You didn't tell me". FFS.

The first unit of gas I use costs exactly the same as the last unit gas I use on my tarrif. It's disgusting that British Gash should be punishing people for using less gas at a time when the gas is running out and we're all trying to lower our carbon footprint.

I mean what a terrible company, how dare they try and make a profit for there shareholders!

This is why they used to have a standing charge, there are a certain amount of fixed costs involved. Since they started doing away with the standing charge and incorporating it into the unit cost, it still requires a certain number of units to break even. This is especially true in the case of pre-payment meters which are more expensive to maintain in the first place.

This bit made me laugh:

We will speak to Mrs Pracy to explain these charges and discuss any other energy efficiency measures for which she may be eligible.

WTF!? So they are going to tell her that she can't pay any less, however they will tell her how she could potentially use less gas - therefore reducing her consumption whilst increasing their profit. Nice one BG.

What an peculiar and sad argument, that disgusting behaviour as shown here is acceptable as it benefits shareholders.

It's not disgusting behaviour please leave your mock outrage at the door, it is stated policy as British Gas need to make a minimum charge to the consumer to make the supply of energy profitable or do you think that British Gas should loose money on the supply or perhaps charge others more to cover the costs?

The Shareholder argument is perfectly valid, British Gas is a company run for the benefit of it's shareholders if the customer can find better service at a lower price elsewhere they are free to move to a different supplier at any time.

It's hidden away in a document like this: http://www.britishgas.co.uk/products-and-services/energy/dual/web-saver/terms-and-conditions.html

Hardly stated policy. I forgot that in OCUK world people, including pensioners, are expected to learn T&Cs off by heart and not complain about the fact that they're always stacked in the suppliers favour. Don't like it? Freeze to death.

I'm so glad I'm no longer with British Gas. One of the most hateful companies I've ever had to deal with as a customer. I'd even consider going to one of the foreign owned energy companies before I go back to BG. I hope this lady does leave BG too, but as she's on a pre-payment meter I'm not sure it's as easy for her as it is for me.

You mean the large handbook, written in size 8 font full of lawyer speak and jargon that makes no sense to most people?

If you want people to read, do a proper FAQ style thing with all the main info and no lawyer speak, something written in plain English that makes sense.
For instance, using that British Gas link posted, it could use fewer numbers and letter points, simpler "or" list of conditions and so on.
