I got a wedding invite for a friends wedding in the autumn which is in Kristiansand in Norway. Thinking of making a holiday out of it as hear it is a nice spot. Any recommendations on what to do or visit there? I know there are sites like tripadvisor but looking for personal recommendations here please! Thanks

southern norway is the only part i haven't been to, but it's supposed to be rather nice.
stavanger is a nice place, too.
what you do depends on how much time you have.. how long are you planning on staying?

We will be going towards the end of september and will be in the south initially. Probably just get a rail card and travel around. The north bits with all the snow/fjords might be better visiting them in the winter.

I lived in Southern Norway for over 10 years. It depends on what sort of stuff you want to do. There is loads of great scenery and wildlife to be seen. Might be worth getting a boattrip out to some of the islands. I used to love having bbqs out on the little islands. If you want mountains and your stereotypical fjords, then head further inland.

Nah, the mountains in Autumn are gorgeous. In winter they can get a bit 'hardcore'. I remember snowdrifts double the height of articulated trucks. You sometimes have to travel in a convoy with a snowplow leading. Spring/summer and autumn are much better. :)

I've been to Hardangerfjord which was just an immense panoramic view, the scale of it will not fail to impress. September will be starting to get cold so pack a vest :)

if you have the time, go round the coast up to ålesund which is a nice town so you can see geirangerfjord, plus you get to do stavanger and bergen on the way

Do you think a week would be enough?

it really depends what you want to do, and how you're getting around

if you don't want to go further north than Alesund, a week is just about enough
it also depends on where you're flying in and out of
