Currently got an Asus P5N32-E 680i mobo running my E8400 @ 3.6Ghz. Thinking of changing for a P35 board, namely the IP35 Pro XE thats selling for £65

Trying to convince myself to change but i cant see it being worth the hassle of swapping boards over. Im perfectly happy with 3.6Ghz, fair enough the P35 may get me 4Ghz but i doubt id see any difference. Also running my GFX cards at x16 on the current board ( GTX280 and 8600GTS for physX ) where on the P35 id have to drop to running the 8600 at 4x

I may want a quad in the near future but tbh i may just get a board with the quad

i'd only think of going to a p45 mobo at the least, pointless swapping from 680 to the p35.

Totally agree. Going to a P35 board would be more of a backwards step. P45 board would be a good move. Pci-e 2.0 slots too. I certainly would'nt touch a Abit board now. As they no longer make motherboards it could be tricky if something were to go wrong with the board after the first 12 months.

Well tbh i thinnk i'll stick with what i have, a bit of research on the net seems to suggest a 45nm quad will work in my mobo with a recent BIOS even thi its not on the CPU support list

I swapped to that Abit, havent installed it yet though but I will on the weekend. Too much of a good deal to turn away seeing at the P45 boards I over £100!
£100 for PCI 2.0? No thanks. There will be no real difference in performance from P35 - P45 so a high end P35 should be good. Then upgrade to expensive stuff when you do a proper i7 upgrade :)
