Today was Day 1 of my Lotty

The weather has broke & the ground is perfect for a spot of digging so today I lined my boot with plastic, Chucked my boots & fork in the back & loaded myself & a flask in the car & went off up my allotment

First thing to do is dig over my beds marking them out as i go & removing all the big stones. Took around 2 hours to get this far just using my fork, The beds are around 5ft wide & the width of my plot.



You can see some of the rocks I found, I'm using them as markers at the mo.
If there's some interest I will keep this thread updated & eventually post my produce

is the non-turned soil also part of you allotment?
up here in scotland they tend to be rather small about the size of the soil you've turned over.

Will get some early potatoes in over the next few weeks staggering them so that I get a weekly crop back.
My only rule is that I will only grow what I Personally eat, Lots of tattys & onions for starters.

none near me in walking distance....well theres a tesco petrol station about 10/15minute walk away, but its in the opposite direction to anything I go to.

Tesco online & get them to deliver although I think you'll have to spend over 25 quid or summit, Don't quote me on that though

I was 93rd on the list when I rang the council a few years back so it is basically just a matter of getting your name on the list & being patient. I was just lucky that my name was at the top of the list when one of these five new ones came up

You need to apply to the local council, there will be a link on the website. Waiting list vary depending on the area allthough in general they have shot up in the last 3 years. In Sheffield I could have an allotment tomorrow if I didn't mind it being in the gehto I've contented myself with waiting on the shortest one in my are which will probably take several years.
