I have just treted myself to a scale model of the US Navy carrier Enterprise which is over a meter long and will take a while to complete.

The hull etc will need to be sprayed and I am wondering how any modellers here would do that ?

Would you have to get a kit for it or would matt gray spray paint from Halford's etc do the trick ?

The hull will have to be a naval grey, the keel will have to be red and the waterline black.

Any info appreciated.

It should look something like this if all goes well.

Supposed to be good for that type of thing.

Is it built ?
put a picture up if it is ! I enjoy seeing this like this !
oooh you could do updates :D

Lucky you're just a single bloke with the time in the world to do this and no kids to wreck it as soon as they can stand up on their own.... Oh wait :p

A cheap airbrush like the one above is the best bet, its very easy to over do it with rattle cans and cover the whole thing in too much paint.

I'm jelous that you have the room for this, ive always wanted to build one but dont have the space!

So instead you're going to be watching Grey plastic? ;)

In answer to your original post, I use halfords sprays on my models as an undercoat (the white/plack primers are much cheaper than the proper GW stuff*), but i think they might be a bit rough for a finish, and to get a good finish you may need a fair bit which could hide details.

The airbrush idea is possibly quite a good one, but you'd need a decent brush and air supply (or at least air supply the cans are expensive and don't give a consistent pressure**) - i've actually got a very good brush here, along with compressor but not had the time/energy to practice on it since i bought it :/

*And I only have to go 5 minutes to pick them up, as opposed to an hour round trip.

**which is pretty important for getting a good finish - you can pick up a compressor with regulator for about £60+ (and it will do the car/bikes etc), but it'll be a noisy one.

Cheers for that. Even the cheeky opener. :D

I don't think he's building a full size one

are you?

It would cost a fortune in glue and the British Government won't give me a permit for a nuclear reactor.

Interesting thought though. :D
