Hi All :)

Quick question about moving my gamertag/profile from my current 20gb hdd to a new 120gb, WITHOUT the migration cable. If I plugged in a memory unit could I move the save games/profile etc to that, put the new hdd in and move it from the memory unit to the new hdd?

I am hoping so, dont want to wait weeks/months to get a migration cable!

Thanks :)

How are you buying the drive? You get a transfer cable if you buy the standalone 120 drive.

I'd be patient and send off for one otherwise (or sign up to the pass around thread on here). :) It'll take a lot of pain and hassle out of the process.

You *could* always hook the actual drive up to a PC :) That's what I did, was quite easy and didn't take long. Had to transfer Rock Band saves with a memory unit though.

I'm buying the unit second hand hence why no transfer cable. Thanks for all the answers, Ill borrow a memory unit from a friend and give it a try or else Ill send off for one :)

can't remember exactly how it went, but i bought an elite and 512mb mem card.

turned on elite, transfered my gamertag over. then i used the transfer tool, think this was it http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/systemuse/xbox360/licensemigration/default.htm to move my game licenses over and re-downloaded all the stuff i had previously bought on LIVE.

i then moved my saves via the mem card and as far as i recall, all my saves work without problems (only able to try them on the disk games i still own).

Thanks for that but can I clarify, the moving of licenses is only for a new console? Im merely replacing the hard drive so I figured I would delete all DLC (of which there isnt much) and any games installed, copy over the gamertag and save games to the memory card, put the new hard drive in and recover the gamertag/copy over the save games and then re-download the DLC. That should work right?

For most stuff yes, as has been said, there are certain saves that can't be moved depending on the game.

You should be ok in most cases.
