Passenger Plane Crashes At Amsterdam Airport

Based on a fatality per kilometre basis, isn’t it one of the safest forms of travel?

According to the National Safety Council, buses, trains, and airlines have much lower death rates than automobiles when the risk is expressed as passenger deaths per mile of travel.

In 2000, the passenger death rate in automobiles was 0.80 per 100 million passenger-miles. The rates for buses, trains, and airlines were 0.05, 0.03, and 0.02, respectively.

It think that, including all possible methods of transport, space-shuttle is the worst.

the plane is meant to break up into 3 pieces - its a safety feature :)

notice how clean the breaks are

Could you let me know where the expected breaks happen so I can choose my seat more appropriately in the future :p

Flew into Schiphol quite a few times on transfers.. doesn't really feel any different for me. It upsets me the fact that there (?) are casualites of course but an accident is an accident...

Apparently 5 have died. Not good.

Got a source at all ?

There were no deaths in the crash, according to Turkey's Transport Minister Binali Yildirim and Turkish Airlines chief executive Temel Kotil.

Earlier reports said there was one dead, but Turkish Transport Minister Binali Yildirim later clarified that no-one had died.

We hear the same on local Dutch news here, then they say everyone survived and later they say that bodybags were seen exiting the plane

It could be a lot worse though, if it 'landed' 100 meters sooner it would have landed on the motorway.

I wouldn't have thought that they would remove bodies that quickly. Wouldn't they need to stay where they were for Air Crash Investigators?

hospitals report 'only' 6 injured people, one very seriously injured and three serious injuries but still no word on deceased people, I have seen a report where they claimed a member of the crisisteam told a reporter that 15 people had died.

There was a press conference 45 minutes ago where the major told that there were nine deaths, 25 serious injured people and 25 minor injuries :(

Also reported on CNN so it looks like it's true unfortunately
