**EMPIRE TOTAL WAR**

The point of the post was to point out that myself and a lot of other players don't use the HUD at all, key commands are much better. Even then, I never let the computer involved in my unit layout... it takes in no consideration of the unit type or what you are facing.. hit any of the formations and next minute its placing your swordsmen in front of your spears when you are facing nothing but Mongol horsemen?

I just don't like your usual **** attitude when speaking to people.

I'm not that keen on the demo of this either, think I need to go have another shot. Can see me sticking with MTWII.

I found a bit of a glitch with the land battles. I came up behind the cannon crew and just shot them in the back and they didnt even respond. They just died slowly lol

The best way I found to keep movement is to move them with the arrow keys on the hud.

If you're so upset simply put me on ignore, or suck it up and deal with it like a man. There are far worse people on this forum, and i'm not going to change my posting style simply because a couple of people throw their toys out of the pram. :)

Its your tone, it stinks like my arse.

I don't have a pram to lob things from; and going back to the original point using or not using the HUD really means nothing.

If i didn't play the demo i would have bought the game on day of release.

Now, i've played the demo i think i will wait and see the reviews after it's released.

The problem I have had with past total war games is the map.

It should be like sim city or you start in a 3d world and build your first base / town whatever and expand.

The current system just gets boring fast.

So the map at the start would be empty and you go around creating the towns? A bit like the civilization games?

Personally I wouldnt like that, as its the historical aspect of the total war games that I really like. But I suppose it would be a nice additional feature to include blank maps where you create the towns on the fly for those people who like that style.

Naval battles are, dodgey at best, with the tutorial I it sends you to board the opposing ship, it just sat their circling the other ship for ages doing nothing, eventually I decided maybe they need help killing the crew so loaded up the, whatever the option is called for the essentially shotgun blast from the cannons and several barages barely killed anyone, was a joke, turn over to normal gun blasts and the ship sunk but despite the tutorial telling you to board the ship and take it over, it completed fine.

Land battles, my cannons got to one point, as I was going around the back of the enemy and decided they didn't want to move any further, I clicked them to move ahead of my general and it decided to stick on shoot commands and unloaded a barrage of fire into the back of my general and a few infantry units, wooo. So I lost men and had no cannons. IN the later battle my infantry kept standing there and refusing to shoot anyone, well some did but 1/2 units just stopped and wouldn't fire again, wouldn't go into melee mode and it was just craptastical bugfest of turdity.

Ok, it might not be final code, but should be close, but theres really almost nothing I didn't find a problem with.

I also had the issue that very few times would they move in formation where I would tell them to, they'd scatter and take years to form up again before they'd fire while the AI controlled groups would move in perfect formation and fire as soon as they stopped without an issue.

So far not hugely impressed while I can see some potential, naval battles feel like they'll be incredibly dull affairs, land battles seem, dodgey, I might be missing something but is their any real improvement anywhere over past versions which I haven't played for years?

Do you like any game? lol Every time I read one of your posts you hate the game.

I didnt have any of the problems that you encountered but I wasnt impressed enough to rush out and buy on release day, unless I see it somewhere really cheap.

There is already going to be a day 1 patch upon release, so a lot of these bugs may well be fixed. They said the demo wasn't anywhere near final build either. There was a guy who has played the final version over at twcenter who said the final played much better than the demo.

meh, i liked the previous title just haven't played it in a long time but a buggy game with nothing new except what are shaping up to be awful naval battles isn't great. Other than the Witcher being buggy as hell on Windows 7, its a truly great game, theres loads of great games. Just l4d, which has been my main gripe of late, is absolutely horrible and lots of games lately are hugely underwhelming.

This might be something I pick up but nothing I'm going to rush out and get, can always auto resolve naval battles if they turn out to suck but I guess it will be down to reviews and early patches to see if it stops being so buggy.

Actually the major thing that peeved me off is this, cannon's. In real life you shoot a cannon at incoming enemy and you miss, but you use the first shot as a benchmark for where to hit next, if it was too long, you lower the angle, it will be closer, in real life you should basically always get closer to your target, "zero in" then mostly hit the target area.

I see no sense in this crappy random fire anywhere bullcrap, a guy on the front line with a gun moving and under fire can obviously move his hand a little and shoot almost anywhere, a 100lbs cannon doesn't do that, its set where its set. In terms of realism cannon fire is horrific and for a game going for ultimate realism it feels ridiculous. IN the tutorial you have 4 cannons I think, and shooting into a non moving enemy the shots went from bad to worse and after a few minutes of firing they'd lost about 4 of 30 guys, meh, not impressed. cone fire dice roll style deciding if you'll hit the target seems like nonsense to me.

I agree the cannons were a bit weird, close range and shooting at 4x US units who were all swarming one of my bait units and they were all over the shop. It should get more and more accurate.

I had a bugs with the dodgy AI and my unit refusing to shoot or fight properly but that's an easy fix, no double be fixed on the release day patch.

I usually see the Total War series as an awesome platform, regardless of what glitches are in the actual games, I tend to find that the series always shines the most in the mods. For instance Deus Lo Vult and the Stainless Steel mods made the last TW 100x better than the vanilla TW imo.

I'm most looking forward to what the modders can do with Empire Total War, until they are ready I am more than happy to play Vanilla TW though.

All I want from modders at the minute is to have my British troops wearing Napoleonic War uniforms inc. shakos rather than tricorns
