Dup, you ever tried Wonder Wheels on your car? It's pretty agressive stuff (so don't leave it on for too long) but it doesn't half get ALL of the ingrained crap off!

Also, I'd try Autosol for cleaning the exhaust. Very very good stuff! Beats any other metal polish IMO.

Whilst there are buckets in the garage I figure that I may as well get some of my own to ensure I have some and they are definitely clean. Also the leather stuff is due to them having a 3 for 2 on AutoGlym and TurtleWax products.

EDIT: was composing that list about 20 mins ago, then had to do some work. :p That list looks rather handy Toker, although no wax/protection stuff? :)

i wouldnt bother with the glass cloths, any cloth with do on glass. id replace that with the protective exta gloss stuff
 
Can anyone recommend me some goodies to add to my collection (or lack of) of cleaning products?!

I've currently got....

Meguires NXT Shampoo
Meguires Gold Class Wax

As you can see it's a very vast collections of stuff. Not.

I've just bought the NXT wash so i've got a full tub of that, the Gold Class wax has under a quarter left so i'll be needing something to replace that.

I just use normal sponges usually, and the 2 bucket method with one to rinse the sponge and one with the shampoo in. I use a normal tea towel to dry the car (not ideal, it leaves little white fluff on it!) and then ive got some microfibre clothes from Halfords which I give it a proper dry off with.

Can anyone recommend me any extra kit? I've read sponges aren't the best to use for washing? Do people use other things aswell as wax to give it protection after a wash?

I forgot to add my reason for the glass ones. I like RainX, and on previous cars I applied it with industrial tissue, which is fine, but leaves little bits of fluff about, so figure the glass cloths would be better for that. Would mean I have cloths I know are soft for use on the glass. :)

Have you tried carlack instead of rainX? It should last a lot longer and i know most people prefer it - i'd recommend that or even the g-techniq stuff i pointed out earlier in this thread which lasts even longer (but is more expensive). Also you only need kitchen roll to apply
 
I found any tissue based applicators (kitchen roll, industrial tissue etc.) left some amount of fluff on the screen which really annoyed me.

Only reason I like RainX is I've used it on my last few cars and it's been brilliant, so if Carlack is better, I'll give it a go, if it's not all that good it's no big worry really, is just nice to have beading screens. :)

Currently all that stuff sits at £65 from Halfords, which I'm sure I can get a lot of the bits cheaper, and I don't really need the RainX Fog stuff, just chucked it on for some reason. :/

Because he said he wanted something to clean it up good and was later going to think about claying.

Better starting out buying some good essentials than buying a whole bunch of useless crap.

if you were after protection as well, look at getting some collinite since it is cheap and durable. If you want to sort the finish out a bit too then look at some Autoglym SRP, but there's no point spending a lot on wax/sealant until you go the whole hog and clay it etc, since the finish is 90% due to the surface preparation.

Turtlewax and Simoniz products suck ass, and I'm not just saying that for the good of my health. They are typical petrol station garage products, you can get so much better for the same cash.
 
Ohhh time to restock on EGP + SRP as the weather is getting good again.

Good thing for halfords 3 for 2 offers, can pick up something extra too \m/

Wash/dry > Pre-wax detailing spray whole car to remove loosened surface dirt > SRP > EGP > 476S gives me a very deep gloss that lasts several washes at the least.

Works for me, even when it's dirty it looks shiny :p
 
I clayed mine on Sunday, it was unbelieveable filthy. I didn't have enough to do the bonnet or roof and I could really tell when it came to buffing off the wax. The wax was clinging to all the rubbish on the paint on those areas while the rest was really smooth and effortless.
 
It'll soon be time for me to get the rotary out again, it's been sleeping over winter :D

Possibly treat my car to some new Zaino goodies too :)

Yup you can run your hand along the body as you wash/dry to feel for any nicks - if it's butter smooth then you won't need a claybar :p

Just one claybar use with good use of wax/seal is enough to ensure a very long time before the next claybar is needed tbh :)

he just wants to do a once over every now and then, not turn into a detailing fan boy and buy into all the hype :D

i doubt he will be aiming for maxxxximum flexk pop yo
 
I plan on keeping the car looking good, but I'm not sure I would be claying, at least not for ages. I don't mind cleaning the car, but it's not something I enjoy doing, so it's more a case of products that will allow me to keep it in a good condition...and now I'm confused. :D
 
sorry, i'm sure this has been asked over and over but i need some new wax/sealant for the audi.

Its a light silver and covers allot of motorway / london miles so i'm more interested in durability than anything.

I've got some of the Autoglym Extra Gloss protection but i'm willing to get something to compliment/replace it :)

stop trying to give people advice on something you have frequently displayed you know nothing about.

Go to halfords and enjoy the mediocre at best results of your turtle wax and simoniz if you wish, but don't try and pass that pish on to anyone else as good advice

basically, listen to me and not matt and you'll be on the right lines

if you get the basics I listed, they are value for money in terms of being excellent and last for AGES

if you top if up with some cheap collinite you'll also have the protection and if you want to go a step further polish it before hand with something like autoglym srp, then a step further clay before that. simple :)
