i was having adiscussion with my physics teacher today when i told him i had a 95mw green laser, he told me this was illegal and i have google this but found varying answers. so i am after some deffinate answers on the laws on green lasers of this power.
thanks a lot!

Im not sure of any laws. I always thought that when they first started to become a must have item, i thought they slapped a ban on "Full Beam" or high power pens, however lately i have seen 95w pens for sale, so im not sure what the law is regarding them.

I assume you mean 95mW rather than 95W as a 95W laser would probably shoot satellites out of orbit!

Why do you want one anyway?

Serious question.

It's a good question. There's a certain "coolness" but few people have any practical application for them really. They are potentially dangerous toward the higher power end, especially the blue ones, but green is still higher energy than red. I mean, I wouldn't get power tools out just to play around with them!

Oh yes. Now it just needs a better case and water cooling, and we are onto a winner.

Enough focused energy to blow a hole in the hardest of metals eh? Forget plane spotting... let's start plane shooting!

To be fair i was extremely bored and stuck in france at the time.

I don't even need glasses badly. I never wear them, i didn't get them until 2 years after (year 9) and even then i was just on the borderline of being short sited.

My mums side of the family mostly wear glasses anyway, i therefore after further analysis declare shining laser pens in your eyes safe.

Never 100% safe, but a low power red one might not do much harm. Many sold now will do permanent damage almost instantly though. Should require a liscence really; don't know if you need to be over 18 to buy the bigger ones but if not that should be mandatory at a minimum.
