I have a Gigabyte 8800GT 512MB and was curious if changing over to a 4870 512MB would be much of an upgrade?

I just upgraded to a VX2260 Viewsonic TFT and it runs in HD @1920x1080 so the resolution is higher than my old screen so I guess its worth upgrading as locally I have found a 4870 for $200 CDN plus taxes.

I just ordered a 4870 1GB (this week only offer) to replace my 8800GT. Expecting a nice boost using a 24" monitor.

Made the move from an 8800GT to the 1gb 4870 and noticed a big improvement. It's well worth it. There's a good price on TWO as well. :)

How does the 8800GT compare to the 8800GTS 320? Im getting a bit of stutter in games so its probably time to put something new and shiny in there - at this price the 4870 sounds like a deal.

My 8800gt has died and BFG are seen to be taking their time giving me an RMA:mad: . I've been thinking about getting a Geforce 260 as I cant afford a top end card at the moment, but have just seen the ocuk deal on the 4870 1GB. Not used ATI for a long time and I game in 1680 x 1050, will I see that much of a jump or shall I wait for a bit. I want to get back into the fps as i've playing wow solidly for a year.

The 4870 is similar speed to the 260, sometimes better, sometimes worse. You will notice a difference over an 8800GT definately, especially if you use AA.

Thanks, i know it can be a bit give or take with ati & nvidia's. one being better at one thing or the other.

One thing I have noticed. I've borrowed my mates X1900XT card as my gt is unusable. The colours in games, in particular wow are so much more vivid. If it is the same with the 4870 compared to the 260, i may well go for the 4870.
