Mine's split on my Seat Leon and hangs down a bit. When I was up in the lakes last week and being a bit enthusiastic it kept brushing the ground. Other than that it doesn't annoy me.

Should I:

Replace it with genuine

Replace it with replica - where can i get these?

Leave it hanging down and forget it

Take it off completly and forget it

Extra Option: Take it off and repair by drilling holes and cable tying the split together. Or heavy duty industrial staples, or rivets or fibre glass repair etc etc.

Fair point, I was lazy and didn't explain that theres a little chunk missing and its hanging because two mounts have split, otherwise that would def be the way to go being tight and all :D

I would personally take it off and leave it. The majority of the time they are more trouble than they are worth.

Replace it, the undertray helps to keep all the road muck off the engine and out of the bay, also without an undertray things will rust quicker plus it could lead to aux belt noise.

What does the undertray protect on that particular car?

If, for example, it's the sump then you need to consider that the damage you've just done to it would likely have been done to the sump instead, which would be bad.

Mine hasn't been on for 9 months now.

Nothing wrong with it, I just haven't actually got round to re-fitting it.

which one? the middle one or one of the side ones?

i had 1 of 3 when i bought it, had a side one fitted when i first bought it, and then i got the middle one fitted when the old side tray started hanging, probably due to hitting lots of ice in norway and then driving from denmark to belgium in a day at silly speeds

i then got the middle one fitted as it held the loose one up, plus i was going back to norway for the winter, and i didn't really want the salt and crap completely ruining the car. it also protects some metal thing, can't remember what it is, but i don't think its the sump. it does make the car quite low, however, and i've managed to lose one of the screws, but it's not really loose.

i wouldn't bother with it now, as there shouldn't be any more salt on the roads. if you can, try and attach it with cable ties or something. i think it costs in the region of £120, so only replace it if you absolutely have to

Undertrays are made of plastic, they are in no way structural enough to protect a sump from damage, other than perhaps keeping gravel etc. away from it.

its not going to be life or death whether it has an undertray or not. My cars generally end up running without undertray as I cant be bothered to remove them every time I want to change the oil.

The best thing is that it keeps the engine bay pretty clean over the years. That's the main noticable advantage.

Personally I would replace/repair it but that's just me :D
