Been lightly discussed in the Darkfall thread that MMORPG's at the moment are pretty poor. I'm desperate for a slick fantasy based one which not only encourages group play but demands it and is hard to play unlike most of these new fluffy ones e.g death penalty, no insta travel etc. I don't think Darkfall will be what im hoping for but it looks like being the next best thing for a long time.

I'm also looking forward to Huxley and hope it can really improve on Planetside which was excellent at the start.

So, what MMORPG's are you looking forward to and why?

The new starwars one. Old republic 3 - Its made by Bioware. I have faith in Bioware to produce a good game.

*fingers crossed* It should be a good one.

I have no idea when it is coming out though could be waiting quite a while.

Sorry didnt add a why.....

Well I liked all the Kotor games. This is kinda in the same line except well its MMO. The brief clips I have seen look good. Its early days though.

Main reason: I LIKE STAR WARS :D

None now, I think my time with MMOs is over. Too many disappointments in the genre, too little imagination or evolution. The average MMO player now is a world apart from me in terms of lifestyles, attitudes, gaming wants, overall personality so I have little in common now with most of the people I meet in MMOs.

Its back to LAN gaming/offline gaming for me, imo the MMO genre has seen its best days and its golden era is now gone, at least for the foreseeable future.

Yep, almost nothing will stop me from trying the old republic mmo but I don't think its out this year, hell, might not even come out next year. Depends lots of mmo's are announced literally years ahead of when they release and starwars announcement wasn't to long back :(

Stargate and startrek have brilliant story/world to get based upon, but somehow both sound like they've been passed around, dumped, brought back from the brink changed hands a billion times and the likelyhood of either being good are pretty low.

Huxley sounded great but has slipped for too long, hoping but not expecting much.

Are ... forgot what company it is, whoever made City of heroes/villians bringing anything new since they kinda reformed the company? Their next big project could be interesting as COH is pretty freaking good.

ooo, just checked and Aion is being made by NCsoft and its gonna be based on the crytek engine, fantasy based. looked intriging so reading a little on it though video's are making me think its maybe not my kinda thing, the video's might just be crap though :p

apparently stargate worlds is supposed to be out this year though but most people think Aion will slip to next year.

Edit;- think i take that back http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bu7v-kZvILM&eurl=http://www.aionsource.com/ look like any game you can think of?

none, I've been searching for a full pvp game since AC (Darktide server) and nothing has really hit the spot. DAOC was good in it's day and I've enjoyed my time in a few others but nothing comes close to the feel of a sandbox pvp game with it's group structure and politics. Eve came the closest but was just a bit boring the rest of the time.

Im going to go ahead and assume youll be trying Darkfall? If not, you should.

Also, if you never played it before.. I strongly advise giving a UO a shot. Try http://www.uogamers.com , classic UO at its height.

I was looking forward to Darkfall...but the recent vids and info that i have seen doesn't make it look too primising, although im sure i will give it a shot

Jumpgate Evolution - It's a twitch-based space combat game a la Elite/X-Wing.
Star Wars: The Old Republic - I'm hoping that someone can at last make a decent SW game with good space combat set in that universe.
World of Darkness - I'm an old Vampire the Masquerade player and I want to see what CCP do with the WoD setting.
Warhammer 40,000 - Again I'm a fan of the setting.

And of course Blizzard's next MMO.

WoD and 40k probably won't be out for another couple of years though.

Jumpgate Evolution here too, it's going to be different, if nothing else.

I'll probably end up trying the old republic too, but I don't like the heavily storylined direction they're going in.

Other than that, there's absolutely nothing on the horizon that looks even vaguely original or interesting. Bummer :(

Edit - forgot about the Warhammer 40K mmo in development. It's still a few years away though, with very little info on what it's like.

if you havent allready, try final fantasy xi online - massive death penalty - you lose 10% of xp unless you get a raise which reduces it to like 5% unles you get raised by a lvl 75 whitemage who can reduce it to barely nill but then you cant do anything for 5 mins while you wait for strong revival sickness to wear off. if no one can raise you you have to go to your home point which is usually miles away! and can delvl. it has hard missions and punishes you for every little thing you do wrong - i played it for years great game - though the missions and lvl grind has become a bit easier recently you still can barely solo at all on most jobs (classes) past lvl 20 or so. plus it atually has storylines which are actually pretty good

havent looked into much new games - kind of enjoying age of conan atm they seem to have fixed most of the bugs and the combat system is cool for melee classes.
