GT Avalanche 3.0 2009

Thinking about getting this bike. Mainly as a starter bike. Will be doing 60% off raid and 40% on.

I know its a £300 bike and i shouldn't be expecting a lot, but there has been some good reviews.

Any opinions on this?

The newer model bikes seem to go for a premium why not go for a 2007/2008 model they will be cheaper and better spec'd.

Aye im almost 100% sure, whether the kraken is reduced im not sure, but it wouldnt be surprised.

I think they honour any price changes up to a week after purchase.

I bought mine last Friday but didn't collect it till Saturday....

my halfords had a vanquish 06 for £250, any good and what are components like as the sales man didn't have a clue.

It's too expensive for what it is, the spec is pretty much on a par with the Carrera Vulcan, nice frame but the build is a bit too low. When you compare it with the £350 Carrera Kraken that becomes much more obvious- it does nothing significantly better but quite a lot much worse- heavier wheels, worse fork, cable instead of hydro brakes. The total bike is slightly lighter because the Kraken has absurdly heavy tyres.

If halfords drop the price on the kraken further, it becomes very, very hard to beat. I had one, it did me proud... Especially once I binned the horrible tyres!
