Took delivery of a shiny new XFX 4870 x2 today only to find when I opened the box that a capcitor was loose in the anti static bag with the card itself:mad: It looks like it was attached to the PCB by the 6 Pin PCI express power connector (as far as I can tell from pics on the internet).

Not a problem I thought I'll just RMA it, OcUK have been nice and fast for me in the past so I've applied for an RMA and asked for a replacement when they verify it, but I've just been on the site and the XFX ones are now out of stock with no ETA:(

Typical of the crappy week I'm having this week:(

Sorry just wanted a whinge with people who might feel/understand my pain!

Sorry to hear about that, Hopefully they might have a better idea tomorrow when stock is due.

oh man ! and the sapphire is £40 extra
what u gonna do ?

i think what should happen is, when you actually buy stuff from ocuk and other competitors is, when you enter you product into the basket and pay, there should be an option or tick box where you authorise someone to open the box and check it for damage and sorts. this way it would save a whole load of upset men

Send it back, if you end up waiting for an unreasonable time then you tell them off and it generally gives a company a kick up the backside to get it sorted.

Sorry to hear that dude , some poor unlucky sod somewhere will get the faulty
card that was being looked at by the quality assurance checker in the factory
when he was thinking about boning his chick and not checking your card properly.
Sadly this time it was you.

Just out of curiosity what type of capacitor was it , at through hole one with wires
Or
A smt one flat style one ?

Dont worry each store keeps a certain number of rma replacments in storage for just this type of occasion. If found faulty which it will you will get a replacment in no time.

Strange how two posters have mentioned this. Surely this is not the case? In an ideal world yes, but in reality................

I think your be waiting awhile as I don't think OCUK will send a new one out before getting a new one back from the manufacturer, well at least they didnt for me. - Took OCUK 28 days to replace.

Am I understanding this correctly?

I wouldn't be impressed if I'd paid for a 'new retail' product, it being DOA and getting an RMA as a replacement - would you?

Well no thats why i hate rma, but as i understand it and i might be correcting myself from before but what happens is you send somit back they take the rma versions (i guess retail but not allowed to be sold) then if found faulty they send you those. Although im not entierly sure what rma stock is like compared to selling units.

im sure if you call ocuk and ask them very nicely they would sort a replacement out for you.
i find they are generally very helpful and want to us all happy

But they have no XFX 4870 x2 in stock and showing no ETA :( :( That's why I'm whinging about my crap luck :p

On the up side the Kingston HyperX 4GB 1066MHz (In this week only) I also received yesterday is flying along and works a treat :D
