Seatbelt legality question

why would you not wear one anyway? even if your going 100 yards, stick the seatbelt on, takes literally 2 seconds. Fair enough its been drummed into me to put a seatbelt on as soon as i get into any car, but it still just makes sense.

When I'm delivering out of the van at work I usually don't bother. I travel for max 20s between the houses and have to get in/out to open/close people's gates. It is a proper pain in the arse. 4 seconds for every stop soon adds up when you're doing it 100-150 times.
Funnily enough I'd probably get the sack if I was caught by my boss; but no fine from the plod.
Always wear it when I'm travelling longer than 150m or so though. Always wear it in the car too. Just it seems a waste of time when I'm travelling for such a short time at a low speed.

Why are private hire drivers allowed to not wear one, imagine a heffer rolling the car and him flying around inside the car you and getting squashed.

This amazed me too.
Even a week or so after this thread was created I still cannot understand any logic behind the private hire driver not having to wear a seatbelt when he has customers in the vehicle.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious?

a lot of HGV drivers think its cool to not wear a seatbelt, little do they realize that in the event of a roll-over, the belt stops the driver getting thrown out of the cab!

Silly truckers.

I know a lot of the 'older' lorries on the road don't even have them fitted...
