What the hell has happened to Rapidshare?

I got the same problem, I bought 100GB Traffic share and never had this problem again.

I notice if I get 2 files at the same time from RS, one of em is at like 450kb/sec when the other one goes up and down like a yoyo and sometimes stays at like 5kb/sec, should be at 450kb/sec too as my internet is up to 1.3mb/sec

I was also pretty hacked off about them changing the limit, and demanding yet more cash, so I complained.

This is what I got back....

Hello, The recent system updates allow us to offer our customers a strong and fullyfunctional service. In light of our recent improvements to our system, weshould have actually increased our prices, instead we have found a solutionthat is fair for all users. Calculations have shown that the average userdownloads less than 2.66 GB per day. It is however the frequent users that gobeyond the scope of the average downloading and hardly cover the cost investedby us. As a result we came to the conclusion that we need to treat everybody thesame. By limiting the daily download capacity to 2.66 GB and offeringadditional download capacity by purchasing and transferring TrafficShare toadded download capacity, we have finally found a fair solution, by which ourprices fit every users need. RapidShare continues to be an innovative platform that leaves no user at aprice disadvantage. We see that the recent upgrades may seem unkind to some users. Please notehowever that the changes serve the overall RapidShare users and is by far agreater benefit than disadvantage. Of course we have kept our long term customers in mind, therefore all PremiumAccounts created prior to October 23, 2008, have been credited with 50GB ofTrafficShare. In addition to this, these Accounts will continue to receive10GB of daily download traffic, until expiration of the Account. At point ofAccount extension, these Accounts will be adapted to the new trafficregulation. We thank you for your feedback. It is your feedback that allows us tocontinuously improve our service and relationships to all of our users. If you have any further questions regarding our TrafficShare or RapidPointsconversions services, please do not hesitate to contact our support team. Best regards, Support Team

As I said, I just paid the 10 euros for more TrafficShare, and haven't had any problems since then. Very irritating though.

Why do you guys pay for these services, is there something I'm missing out on?

Because it being an HTTP download from dedicated servers means that the speed is maxing out your internet connection 95% of the time - far better than torrents, with varying speeds and a lack of seeds.

Indeed I download 2 files at a time at 1MB/sec each and rip through a full download in just a few minutes.

A few quid for a few months of usage is very good IMO. Rather a few quid to have content instantly instead of having to wait for seeders as well as the added risk of having my information tracked by connected peers and not having to upload to keep a decent ratio etc.

I never understand the torrent bashing thing. Well I do, if you are using public/rubbish sites. Cant blame torrents for that though. I do however understand the "but I don't have to seed back" argument.

I use torrents too. Some things have high peer/ssed base so download very quick but for anything else I dislike seeing my 20MB not being used to its best ability ;p

And anyway, it's only a few quid every few months...hardly a bank breaker.

I have a rapidshare account. Ive never had this problem I have to say.

As mentioned its not exactly a bank breaker for the account. I've had mine for ages. Very happy with it.

Note: To me it isn't a bank breaker.... To others it may be, if it is then you need to earn more money :p

I guess the difference is what exactly you're downloading and how fast you consume said content.

I've never found torrents to be too slow really, only obscure ones, but then you'd have the same problems finding the content on the those sites... Even using torrents on an 8mb connection I still download stuff faster than I use it, so why would I need it any faster?

newsgroup is much better iirc was very cheap for like 200gb
Yeah, a lot less hassle and a wider variety of content, some of which is available a lot sooner.

Giganews is currently $25 for unlimited. The weak pound isn't helping. :p
