I used to, but not really any more as what I'm using seems to be working. I think having a better striker than Berbatov (in-game, I like him as a player in real life) helps a lot though, both the new striker and Rooney end up playing better. Benzema, Aguero and Torres are all perfect strike partners for him. Possibly Vagner Love as well now too, he looks fantastic since the update, would have to be quick to get him though - in my game Real Madrid bought him in the first window for £34.5m.

Yeah. The only thing I'm a bit worried about now is that if I go with Sakho and Evans as future defence, neither of them have the pace of Ferdinand.

There is that. But I find Rio makes a few mistakes so hopefully Evans and Sakho, whilst slower, would technically make fewer mistakes.

Championship teams or Scottish premiership teams. Make sure the club say that they will be a valuable first team member though, there's no point in them going out on loan to be backup. In my new game Rafael has gone to Hearts (I always get them as an affiliated club) because no one wanted to take him on loan, before 9.3 loads of championship teams would offer to take him.

Whenever I loan players out, it is only to clubs where they will play as a valuable first team member.

Yes, Vagner Love looks very good. His stats are unbelievable for a striker, and had 6 in 4 goals at Man City (£17.25m).

I generally sign the same people though, as i like target/fast strikers.

MSN group convos? I've never used IRC IIRC. Bit of l33t acronymage for yous.

But you are right, something more instant would be cool. Although I would still have to post here a lot to see if we can't get 100 pages for the FM09 thread before FM10 comes out.

Yes in a different save, I think it was after 3 seasons, Liverpool had only finished mid-table and I offered them tons of money then offered Torres as much money in wages as I could. Probably better going with Benzema or Aguero though, similar ability for less money.

I just think Prem defenses eat up big man little man partnerships.

Lies

Pogrebnyak and Johnson (generally buy a couple others) works wonders.

Recent game, target & fast;

Target Man:
Pogrebnyak: 24(6) apps - 22 goals

Fast Strikers:
Rossi: 22(2) apps - 18 goals
Johnson (backup fast): 9(5) apps - 7 goals
Nilmar (another backup fast): 6 apps - 4 goals

Works

New game my strike force doesn't have Pogrebnyak as i signed Fernandinho.

But it consists of generally fast strikers;

Bratu (played AMR, backup target) - 16 Accel
Lewandowski (backup striker) - 13 Accel
Johnson (main fast striker) - 18 Accel
Zamora (target) - 15 Accel

So far its doing OK (normally Pog is my best striker).

You're right, fast-man creative-link-up-man works well though

I've never really bothered with it in the Prem, Always used 4 3 2 1 formation.

I remember Rooney getting over 50 goals on FM08 for me using that system.

Rossi is a brilliant player, Love the guy !
How much did you get him for ?

I like creative midfielder's, When I'm playing in the lower leagues I look for someone with a big about them to play a forward thinking midfielder.

I like my work horses in midfield though.

I signed him for his release fee (before patch) for £21.5m. That was his debut season for me .

I think possibly my best striker signing in FM09 so far is definitely Pogrebnyak, scores many goals and always cheap.

My formations;

Generally my most effective one, at first didn't have a tactic i could use throughout the season, but i went 2-3 seasons just using that one. Because i end up with good AMC's, i generally use this on rotation depending the game;

Generally both pretty similar though, but as Marc/Shami will know, i end up with far too many strikers, and this was my formation in my last game;

Did help having these strikers though; Johnson, Bojan, Pog, Rossi, Nilmar

I generally always have a natural MC/DM playing, and a more attacking. Currently its Fernandinho and Etuhu/Dacourt/Murphy on rotation. I haven't signed my normal players being Hernanes, Alex, Pogrebnyak though

He's about... 18/19 ? and is a machine ! won young player of the month constistantly and for a winger netted 20 odd goals.

Nice. I tried to sweet talk him in a previous game and he didn't like me. In fact I think I instantly appeared on his hate list or something.

I quite like the look of Fazio. Almost like a supercharged version of Vidic. Plus he has Italy as a second nationality so it should be easier to get him playing for Utd than the Colombian Zapata.

Erm, not really, most of the team is OK, i generally keep most of it, but i always sign a new key DC (to pair with Hangeland), a GK after first season, and generally a ST/MC.

Dunno if you'll consider it a cheat, but i always make Roy my Asst Manager too, but that doesn't affect the game too much.

Roy is a really lovely bloke ! seriously, he's like a Grandad, he also knows a hell of a lot about the game.
