Hi all,

Just looking for some answers to some questions regarding 'plugs' in earlobes, preferably for those who have had this done.

I am looking to have an extremely small (4-5mm, no higher) one placed in, possibly where I already have an existing normal piercing, but am unsure as to a few things:

- How hard are these things to keep clean, and prevent infection? I've heard from some people that they are more liable to infection than other piercings.

- How do you start the process off? I can't find any plugs smaller than 4mm and I can't seem to imagine wacking one of those through a tiny hole...

- If I decide to take it out at a later date, how well do these heal up? Is the normal shape of the ear likely to go back to normal? I'm not overly bothered about just a tiny scar, but don't want wonky ears.

Thanks :)

from keeping clean point of view, not too bad. Get a cotton swap in some white spirit twice a day, or it does goo up quite fast and get smelly.
Make sure that you also sterilize the jewellery too.
And isnt the 4mm smaller at one end than the other?
Just stick the thin end in and twist it progressively through. There is a recommended length of time to wait, but i cant remember offhand.

If you can't find any smaller than 4mm you can use a 2mm BCR or something. That's how I did it anyway.
I never had any infections - it smells quite a bit but that's no big deal unless your nose is unusually close to your ear.
I had mine stretched to 15mm and is now barely noticeable since taking it out a few years ago.

Edit: Not really noticeable unless close-up. Nobody has ever commented on it anyway. Close up however it does like like an arse:

It leaves very noticeable and very stupid-looking holes in your ears.

Please DO NOT use white spirit, this will burn your skin. If you want to give a good clean some tea tree oil in warm water or saline solution is more than enough.
Twisting is also not a good idea it can cause tearing, a slow smooth movement with plenty of lubricant will work better.
The best stretches are done super slowly, this will leave plenty of skin around the stretch. 1.2mm every 6 months type of idea. If you go faster, leave time for your ear to heal between stretches and try not to go bigger than 1mm per stretch as it increases the chances of pain/poor stretching/tearing.
Starting out, barbells and cbrs up to 4mm.
Taking it out, you might end up with it looking like a cats butt for a few months but should get better you can always have them sewn up.
Why not just get imitation plugs? They look like stretches with none of the hassle.

He asked for advice, not for people to spout crap because they dont like it.

Unfortunately these sort of threads cause all the special people to dust off their soap boxes and preach about how common it is and how people wont employ you or go near you if you get anything like this

Shouldn't ask these questions on a forum where all the men here are bald and shave with a blunt stone. Manly men apparently.

Thanks for the advice people. I'm heading into town anyway tomorrow so I think I'll pay a visit to one of the piercing places there and ask them to give me a bit of a demonstration on how to start it. It really is something that I've been wanting for a while but not been able to get the nerve to do until now :)

Far from it, ear stretching is merely a fad, I thought it was out of style by now it certainly seems to have came to a halt where I'm from.

When I was cleaning mine after it was first done, I was told that salt in warm water was the best method. I never had an infection :) Started out at 3mm and I'm at 12mm now. Leaving it there.

pic? They can look quite cool but it's a shame when people stretch them too far.
