Interestingly enough, my local jobcentre is advertising several 'jobs' leafleting in my area for a company called 'freedom2call' - there's no telephone number and application is via email only, also with conflicting postal addresses. Wage advertised as £280.00 per week, for delivering phone-cards for use telephoning abroad. A check of the website reveals a dodgy 3rd party hosted site with no traceable information.
I've had one of these cards through my door some time back and it went straight in the bin as it looked like a scam.
For interests sake, I sent them an email at about 10pm last night and received an automated reply within 10 minutes... the reply is fairly straightforward, and reveals (amongst other things) that the 'wage' is totally commission based, so the advert in the jobcentre is misleading, not to mention dishonest as there's no guarantee that you will get paid anything at all, plus they need your bank account in order to 'pay' you lol.
The general tone of the email is too good to be true on face value and I suspect were I to send them insults they'd still reply with
Many thanks for your email to find out more about how to become one of our successful distributors. You sound very enthusiastic and that's exactly the right attitude you need to have to be successful at this job blah blah blah
It worries me that some foolish oik might end up signing off in order to start this kind of work, only to not be paid a penny for handing out dubious phone-cards where
The more cards you give out, the more you will earn. We know that for every 100 cards given out, between 7 to 11 will be used
and the 'commission' is based upon the number of cards
actually used for international calls/credit. As I said, one of these type of cards that came through our letterbox went into the bin post haste.
here's some more from the reply email:
How we pay you
1. The cards we give you to hand out are unique to you. The last four numbers on the top-up phone number identify your card to us (0911 101 XXXX). So when someone you have given a card uses it we know it s from your work and from their top-up call we pay you a percentage of the money they have paid to top up their calling card.
2. Every Wednesday we look on our computer equipment and add up how many calls and minutes have been made using the cards you have handed out over the last week (Monday - Sunday).
3. We then pay you a commission based on these minutes from your cards.
4. To get you started we pay the following commission rates
First week 70%
Second week 50%
Third week 40%
Fourth week 30% flat rate from there on in
By your fourth week, if you have been handing out enough cards you will be earning well. On average you should be earning £280.00 a week if you keep handing out the cards. We pay directly to your bank account.
I will be speaking to my jobcentre to inform them of these highly dubious employment opportunities and to ask what the hell they are doing advertising what has all the hallmarks of a scam as a legitimate employment choice.
