Anybody downloaded it, and seen any major improvements. I already know of the changes in this release, I just want to know if it's worth downloading.

Well since this is a "Release Candidate" its far from unstable. Usually there are little if any changes from RC to RTM.

Why not? People like to test it for new features/stability/updates. Nothing wrong with installing it on a non-vital machine, or even VMWare/VirtualPC/VirtualBox. It'd even probably be fine on a main PC as it's a release candidate.

Is this the same as Windows XP in regards to a new installation without any service packs? Can a user install Vista sp2 while skipping sp1?

As far as I know you can go straight to SP2.

I believe Microsoft have made it so you need to have SP1 installed before installing SP2, so it cuts down on the filesize and also to make the SP work for both Vista and Server 2008 in a single update.

i have been running it since beta and i havent had a crash yet
v286 installed everythings fine and dandy

Ah, possibly (similar to what they did for SP3 - SP1 was required to go to SP3). They got a lot of complaints last time they released a big patch due to bandwidth issues... obviously from the stupid large companies that don't use WSUS :rolleyes:

Can you go from the RC to the proper release without hassle? I'd hate to install this and find it was stuck on the PC.
