160kg Woman Forced to pay for second Seat

Medical conditions, genetic predispositions, medication. To name but three.

Not to mention it isn't anywhere as easy as "stop eating" for most people. You try not breathing for 20 minutes - that's close to how they 'feel'. I appreciate it is a simple case of stop eating to an outsider, but obesity is close to alcoholism etc.

That aside, it's human choice to be whatever size you want, indeed obesity has been previously celebrated in an individual.

I find it alarming how someone in the thread said it was fine for a weightlifter to be that big - and not have to pay extra - but the fat person has to? So it's not about size then.

Not that I wouldn't be annoyed if she was sat next to me :)

Just lots of hassle which I couldn't be bothered with.

The coach was full so didn't have much choice but to sit there.

It could have been much worse like being stuck with the window seat and him suffering with travel sickness :D

Suppose it could have been worse. Ive had to sit next to fat people a couple of times on busses etc on my travels. I just make sure i take up half the seat with my legs, if they push into my half just turn and give a stare with the look of 'NO FATTY'

If she occupies part of someone else's seat why should they pay full fair. What gets me is why tall people (yes I'm quite tall) should have to pay the same fair for a seat that's clearly not big enough through no fault of their own.
That is so naive.
Why?
theres diseases and medication that can cause weight gain so some people cant do anything about it
Not to that extent, unless you're so ill you wouldn't be capable of flying on an aeroplane

I said all people should be charged if over 160kg, unless weight lifters/basketballs players etc. Generally 160kg and obese implies a strain on the NHS system because of bad heath. Sports people are not in bad health

One requires will power to stop eating cream buns and the other requires will power to stop drinking?
How many fat people do you know that eat cream buns? As an analogy it's flawed. I'd prefer "over-eat". And yes, it takes will power to stop over-eating, just like it takes will power to stop smoking or stop drinking. There are usually psychological issues behind obesity.

Do you not read?

That was my point! They're bigger, weigh more! So are an inconvenience on the plane, and should be paying more?

And fyi, weightlifters generally have poor knees, backs and hearts. So.....?

With that argument though, sports people put a lot of strain on the NHS too, injuries, physio etc. I know ive got a long long list of sports injuries.

I think if you take up more than one sit you should pay for another. Doesnt matter why. Dont like it dont fly, take the bus etc. Of course would never happen could turn into a PR nightmare for whatever company did it

Indeed.

But, nightmare = not true. Some small planes they weigh you before you get on the plane to distribute you evenly. So it is easily implementable, just in a PC world it won't happen.
