1GB Powercolor 4870

basically when u install the card it is quite loud i think it runs at 50% fan speed,

but in Ati catalyst control center

u can set fan speed manually. lower fan speed = less noise bit bigger temperature depends on the case.

ps: nvm my temperature i just doing graphics intensive stuff .

looks like they have changed the fan design on this card now. used to be the reference which is where all the reviews have come from.

Mine sits at... well Everest gives 3 temps:

GPU Diode (Shader): 58
GPU Diode (DispIO): 56
GPU Diode (MemIO): 66

At load they are about 75,75,85 at the most. Case is under my desk and the fan on the card is no louder than the CPU/case fans.

anything louder than 30% is too loud for me.

however i have to pop it to 37 ish as itll pip 100 degrees.

I wish i had the new cooler :(

At stock and at idle with the fan on auto, mine spins no faster than 5%. I manually set mine to 30% and I cant hear it above my CPU fan. Any more than 30% then I can hear it above my CPU fan. On default settings my card idles around 70c. With the fan at 30% it idles around 40c.

PowerColor card arrived and installed with the latest 9.2 drivers from ATI but I can't see the "Enable Manual Fan Control" option in the ATI Overdrive section.

I clicked the padlock to unlock the Overdrive options and this is what I see...

Any ideas how I enable the fan control feature or has it been removed from 9.2?

Yup, still there (well, not there)... uninstalled drivers, used Driver Sweeper to be sure, then re-installed the 9.2 drivers and still no fan control :(

What driver version are you running if you have the fan control?

I'm running 9.2 and i have the fan control , never had this issue tbh is a new one on me
maybe the new powercolor coolers dont allow you to control them for some reason

I have the option available with mine. Maybe when you installed it you knocked the fan cable out?

Edit: Wow that is pretty dumb of me... ignore :)

My CCC is stuck on Win95 skin

Edit2: Fixed that, I am being stupid tonight :)

That's really strange if you have the same driver set and card. I'm baffled. There's no unlockable stuff in the CCC akin to Coolbits on NVIDIA is there?

At least the fan seems to be handling things on its own. Even turning off the monitor makes the fan slow down... Not sure if this is normal thing for cards as my 3870X2 required rivatuner to adjust it. Nifty though :)

Nope nothing to unlock like coolbits should just be there after install.
It is very strange that its not tbh
Its perfectly normal for your cards fan to speed up and slow down this is written in the cards bios,
so when your card gets to a certain temp the faster the fan will spin to cool it down .
