So Sony are now saying that they made the PS3 hard to develop for on purpose,

Full article here

Kaz Hirai said:
We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that (developers) want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so then the question is, what do you do for the rest of the nine-and-a-half years?

What the hell are they thinking?

That's the reason in N64 never really took off with with 3rd party games. It was a case of: code the PS version, quick port to the saturn version and then start all over again from the ground up to make the N64 version

Continue the quote please, don't just read the sensationalist crap in big red print
Kaz Hirari said:
"So it's a kind of--I wouldn't say a double-edged sword--but it's hard to program for," Hirai continued, "and a lot of people see the negatives of it, but if you flip that around, it means the hardware has a lot more to offer."

Their winning this one as its allowed the 360 to take a big lead over them and keep momentum even now. Recently PS3 has started to catch up a lot so MS must be worried but lets face it most PS3 exclusive titles are nothing special anyway (I like my PS3 a lot but its true!). Playing Killzone 2 at the moment and once you played a few hours its just a prettier COD4/Gears Of War clone all the technical tricks are obvious like ultra low res textures and data streaming which causes stutters due to the slow BD speed (they should have made it a HD install optional). PS3 is a strong multimedia machine which can play games and has the potential to last longer than X360 as the Cell is powerful but lack of Vram will destroy any chance it has of lasting even 5 years as by then the new Xbox will be graphically a long way ahead.

Speaking japanese helps if your a PS3 developer...

Add in Nintendo's strict Quality Control license program and high cost manufacturing of the cartridge format as well.

Anyways not so surprising if the PS3 is hard to develop for, whether it is on purpose or not. It was the same excuse how the PS2 was too. Give developers the time, or even a few more years in or near the end of the PS3's lifespan and maybe we will see some more impressive looking games, just like it's predecessor had. Things are starting to look good now with a couple of games though.

Aslong as they can pull off games like MGS4 and LBP, I don't care.

True, cant say I have any problems with the catalogue, theres quite a number of decent exclusives now (and due), so this just strikes me as not much of a problem/bit pathetic. :)

When it means that you're seeing MGS4 in 2008 instead of 2007, you should start caring. When it means the games cost more to develop, and forces the developers to go elsewhere and denting the success and life of the PS3, you should start caring. I don't know why people don't realize how detrimental Sony has been to their own console.

"Hi there, games development studios, we purposefully wasted probably months of manpower that you guys had to pay for because we don't want to upgrade our hardware like we do every other generation! Do enjoy!"

Is basically what Sony have just said.

Don't compare Killzone 2 to the boring single player of Gears of War and Call of Duty please, it's in another league.

This.

All the exclusives I've bought have been nothing but fantastic.

Killzone has a single player mode? Must have missed that, with the fantastic multiplayer. :p

I didn't even notice Gears of War 2 mentioned.

And every time?? You could only have completed KZ2 once maybe twice, every time is a bit strong. And the story and single player in COD4 in general is rank.
