Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Official guide to unlocking Gouken:

To unlock Gouken as a playable character:

1. Complete Arcade Mode playing as Akuma and watch (not necessary to watch everything) an ending.

2. Then, unlock Gouken as an opponent, and defeat him.

Necessary conditions to unlock Gouken as an opponent:

- Play with any characters with which you watched the ending once (so play using a character you have already beaten the game with)

- Do not continue at all.

- Do not lose at all. Not even one round (easier if you only play 1-round matches)

- Achieve certain number (or more) of "Perfect" rounds. The number of Perfect Win you need to achieve are:

If you play on

- 1 round match: 1 time or more

- 3 round match: 2 times or more

- 5 round match: 3 times or more

- 7 round match: 4 times or more

- Achieve a certain number (or more) of Super Combo -OR- Ultra Combo Finishes. Super and Ultra finishes both count toward this number. The number of super/ultra finishes you need to achieve are:

If you play on

- 1 round match: 3 times or more

- 3 round match: 5 times or more

- 5 round match: 7 times or more

- 7 round match: 9 times or more

- Achieve certain number (or more) of First Attack (this means you must score the first strike in a match--the screen gives you the "First Attack" message, and you can mostly do this without even noticing):

The number of First Attack you need to achieve are:

If you play on

- 1 round match: 5 times or more

- 3 round match: 10 times or more

- 5 round match: 15 times or more

- 7 round match: 20 times or more

- Then Gouken will appear. Kick his butt to unlock him!

Didn't realize it was so complex to unlock gouken. I simply played on 1 round in easiest, got 3 ultimate finishes and 2 perfects and then he appeared.

Mate, I'm not interested in tekken and never have been either. This is a classic streetfighter game, you should be able to pick it up and get into it with relative ease if you use to play sf2 back in the day. However, this goes into a lot more depth, if you just try your dragon punch and fireball combo's you will get you backside handed to you by someone half decent :p

But you can practice and improve and it definately feels like a streetfighter game, I highly recommend it! :) The character balance is a bit unfair as Sagat (my fave player) is too powerful and inflicts a lot of damage but I'm not complaining.

I've played 158 games online and won 129, and am currently just over 2100BP.

For online and 2 player action, this game is phenomenal. It's been years since I've played a game this much.

Sounds awesome mate thanks for the info (and I was never a cheap ass D-punch>FB abuser ). Just need a console to play it on now... was thinking of waiting til the PC release but I really dont like the idea of facing all those muppets with their macro'd specials etc.
As luck would have it our DVD seems to be on its way out.. perfect time to highlight the benefits of blu ray and the PS3 to the missus :D

Ended up paying £35 for this due to needing it for the weekend, worth every penny!
I need a stick though, usually I'm a Guile man, but the supers and ultras are a real pain on a pad.
For now, I'll be a Sagat chap :)

Saw a video recently outlining the stats for all the characters and all i can say is why bother playing anyone other than sagat? He's average for speed but one of the strongest, with one of the longest reaches, has the most powerful moves and has some of the most health.

because some people like to use others and tiers don't really matter to them :p

tiers ain't gonna matter one bit unless you play at the highest level.

I would say gg but it was a bit one sided tbh lol. I'm on 2100 BP at the moment but I have to admit, I haven't played anyone yet who was doing the amount of moves/combo's with ken that you were. I couldn't even figure out in my head how to play against you, you must be using an arcade stick?

I always lose to Sagat players.

Just because Sagat has the best stats doesn't mean you will win with him, simple as that.

It's all down to the player.

and lol, Seth is not B tier, he has the lowest health, does the least damage and takes the most damage in-game, lowest stun rating too.

Lol oh. Who have you played from the forums so far mate, because I've played a few people and I've won most my games. How do you cancel the moves, ie dragon punch? Is it focus attack fwd fwd? I find it almost impossible to do with my button layout.

It was only Cavallino who gave me a good hiding but that was in sf2 hd remix, not played him in sf4 yet although I'm sure it will be pretty much the same story.

True, I lose to Blanka and Sakura players all the time as well :p

the best ones ive played from here so far are cavalino, doomy, beenom and rp2000

and yea its focus attack and dash cancel out of it to cancel specials. its ok on pad since your thumb naturally goes over mp+mk anyway (assuming you use default controls).

sagat needs them, he gets sick damage off anti-air tiger uppercut canceled into ultra.

it really annoys me how ken only gets half damage from his ultra when he does that but both ryu/sagat get full damage for the exact same thing :/

edit- do the hard trials, sagats helps you with focus dash cancels and will teach you some useful combinations for his ultra

I played rp and it was pretty close, I ended up winning more then him although he was a bit difficult to get close too with the amount of fireballs he was sending out. :p The others I haven't played yet in SF4.

Right anyway, thanks for showing me I'm rubbish. :D I don't have default controls but I'm gonna mess around with them, and definately try and add a few things to my game. How did you do against Cavallino?
