Chaps ,

What are your experinces of giving up smoking by going to a Hypnotist ?

I have been told that it will cots me in the region of £160 which I am glad to pay.

Along with some will power can i succeed ?

Anyone else done this and does it , can it work ?

If you have the willpower you will succeed anyway.

I am in the process of giving up myself, I smoked 10 a day ish before. And have simply just forced myself to not want to do it. I had half a fag today (I sat and watched the rest burn.), yesterday and 1 on Saturday.

I think it's just the act of inhaling smoke that has me :/ (rather than the nicotine etc )

If you REALLY want to give up, you will be able to.

If you REALLY want to quit then you can!

Quitting requires willpower of course but if you're committed then it's doable

Good luck :)

My dad tried it, didn't do much for him.
I would think it just depends on what person you are.

He ended up taking some drugs/tablets for a few months and stopped smoking but had massive withdraw symptoms.

Man these guys are dangerous, wouldn't know there arse from there elbow as far as healing was concerned, keep your dreams to yourself mate

Mind over matter IMO. If you really believe in hypnotism then you'll convince yourself that it worked and you'll never need another cigarette again.

Yes and the repressed tension will explode in some unpredictable uncontrollable way. Epic fail

I quit for 9 weeks with hypnotherapy, but it kinda grinds down and wears off bit by bit. All depends on the person of course, so make the big springboard effort in the early weeks if it works for you. I was so impressed and also confused as to why it worked that I had to question and test it... = fail

Give me the £160 and everytime you go to light a fag I'll kick you in the balls, I guarantee it will work twice as well as hypnotherapy.

You can do it!

I started smoking when I was 15. I'm 29 now and quit just over a month ago (I smoked between half to a full pack a day throughout the years) and I'm doing fine with absolutely no cravings. Everytime I pass someone in the street smoking, the smell just reminds me why I'm quitting.

It really does get easier with a bit of time. I found the first week the hardest.
Best advice I can give is get through it day by day and don't smoke at all... not even half of one to see if you still like it.

I could handle the physical cravings but the mind is a powerful thing. If you've ever tried to stop before, you know all those thoughts that go through your head. (just one more, why are you quitting, you like smokng.. etc.) To counteract that, I decided that if I still wanted to smoke after 6 months, I would. There wasn't really anything my cravings could throw at me because most of my thoughts centered around never smoking again and why it was a bad thing. A 6 month trial meant it wasn't permanent. Needless to say, after a single month, I don't want to start again.

i still cant see smoking being that hard to give up... knowing im spending £5/day on killing myself would be enough for me

my nan/grandad gave up because they went up 2p :D just... didnt buy anymore, it worked - try it.

Pretty much what everyone has said: If you really want to give up, then almost any way of helping will work, if all you want a magic bullet that will stop you smoking and take away the urge and you will never smoke again, there isn't one.

You really, really do have to want to stop, none of that half hearted, "I'll cut down" crap.

I gave up after around 40 years of smoking and two heart attacks by using Zyban tablets which remove the physical craving whilst you get over the initial period but the mental bit was still up to me; I now have to treat it like being an alcoholic i.e. I cannot 'just have one' or a drag of one as I know that I'd be back to 50 a day in no time.

Good luck.

A friend of mine gave up instantly with hypnotherapy. Apparently the hypnotherapist suggested the next cigarette he had would taste like the first one he ever had. Worked like a charm.

What ever you try it wont be easy I am so far 6 weeks today and luckily havent used patches or gum this time, my main incentive is the fact I had to have a triple heart bypass 6 weeks ago today.
I still get some really bad craving but they dont tend to last to long. Maybe the following image might put you off smoking

You could have got 'em to level up your nipples while they were at it! ;)

On a serious note, I hope you are doing ok and recovery is speedy.
