I just bought an Alpine CHA-S634 Mp3 changer for my 330ci and my understanding was it would just connecting directly in place of the existing changer. I have just been looking up some tutorials on how to remove the changer to fit this and noticing mention of converters and what have you. Do I need anything other than the Alpine unit or is it just a straight swap?

Cheers

You may need the bus converter. The E46 bus does not use the AI NET system although the changers are compatible. From memory, there was just an extra length of cable which addressed this issue.

Yup a converter dongle to convert from BMW>Headunit is needed as well as the din surround and steering wheel controls dongle if you want that.

Around £50 total for all that.

Ay idea where i can get it?

I have been looking around and seems quite a hard thing to find these days.

You'd need to confirm what kind of BMW interface your car has on the back of the head unit first, are the pins flat or round?

Well the trim you'll need is something like this:

The HU adapter, I see it seems to have steering controls integrated now (mine is a seperate patch lead for steering controls) but you may want to contact the store to make sure it will work with your HU:

If you want to use the changer too then yeah, as Lucero linked too!

mrk you're totally barking up the wrong tree. He wants to change the CD changer, not the headunit!

Barkgh!

I saw mp3 changer and instantly thought mp3 player not cd changer with mp3 playback!

My bad :)

Yeah thanks for the links mrk but its just the CD Chnager i want to replace. I assume its just a case of removing the old one and replacing it with the alpine and using the cable Lucero linked too connect it up?

Yep, but if you add an Intravee (£120 or so) with the changer then you'll get much better control and track names on the stereo.
