Focus RS Review

Not that it matters in a car like this, it's fast enough anyway with or without any noticeable turbo lag from the looks of things.

iIts only a car at the end of the day. i just find it humerous that they admit the focus RS has negative qualities (torque steer, turbo lag etc..) but rather than being a bad thing, it gives it character ?

Has it not occured to you that things like torque steer occur to different degrees? The torque steer in a VXR thing ruins it, that in the RS does not.

possibly

i just sense a great deal of sweeping under the carpets. Some reviews claim not to notice anything, others that do notice things, notice different things, but put them as good things.

Im not unwilling to accept the RS is a great car and drives better than the VXR. I just dont like the "woollyness" of the reviews.

:p

if turbo lag is a good thing, why has every other car with it (like the Evo 8 FQ400) been slated for it ?

the press need to make their mind up.

Cos slabs of torque make an RS lose traction or hook the inside and wrench the wheel from your hand where as a EVo you need instant torque to cancel out the pushon understeer, the 4wd means this chunk doesnt light the tyres up.

The Evo 8 FQ actually has a very late boost threshold. I imagine half the 'lag' in a RS is simply ignition timing dialled right back even though the turbo is making decent pressure to dampen the rate of torque increase.

I agree wholeheartedly, I imagine it really is a fantastic car, but characteristics which would make other cars be seen in a negative light are seen as "fun" and "lairy" in the RS.

There's going to be an article this week on DR about the RS and am looking forward to what they make of it when comparing it back to back with some other cars..

I never realised so many OcUKers had driven the new RS or the VXR. Loads of opinions based on nothing more than what they see on Top/5th gear or read in the generic car mags.

I'm looking forward to driving the new RS. A neighbour has one on order which I'll get to drive. Hopefully it will be all that they say it.

Having already driven a few VXR's (around Donington, Mallory and on the road) I have a pretty good idea of what it can and can't do. Will be nice to have real driving experience to compare them.

Get over it, the VXR is crap, the RS seems to be actually genuinelly good.

yeah the vxr is bad, i test drove one before i got the ST and I have to say it looked awful, drove awful and it was a vauxhall

I love the remus exhaust noise on a Astra VXR.

I've not driven a VXR to comment on its ability, but one thing I hate but this goes for all VX's is that flat blue (is it Arden Blue). Thos vx's in that thread the otherday compared to the white ones just look spoilt because of this paint combo :)

yea lol wot do proper drivers know anyway lol, far better to trust....

...somebody so objective, like a fanboy who ordered without even a test drive.

Considering they have all been bought, IMO I would imagine if you hated it, you would not have any trouble shifting it. Maybe even at a profit?

They are still available. They aren't sold out yet, although fifth gear and all major magazine reviews will make it sold out soon.

Good review on DR, gets down to more of the nitty gritty of the RS rather than a seemingly press blurb regurgitation like some other reviews.

I'm still not entirely convinced on it, just don't think it's special enough, or rather I don't think it'll be an event every time you drive it like it should and deserves to be. In that respect I think I'd rather have the R26.R for the overall ownership experience, still wouldn't say no to an RS, although I'd always close my eyes when walking behind it so I didn't see the horrible rear end of the RS :p
