Hi,

Please can someone give me an estimation of how much it will cost to live somewhere not too far from the UCL bloosmbury campus is London for 52 weeks, from September? I guess including Rent, Tube travel if required, food, internet, house bills. Could 10k be stretched to cover everything for the year?

Thanks,

Jack

Estimates vary as to how much students should budget for, and London, like other destinations, can be as expensive as personal taste dictates. A total of around £220 per week is considered to be a reasonable average for about a 37-week year (this includes the 30-week UCL academic year plus Christmas and Easter vacations).

As a guide, for a first year student living in a UCL hall of residence the biggest items are:

* £95-£100 for accommodation
* £40 for housekeeping (food, toiletries etc)
* £50 for entertainment
* £10 for travel
* £7 for books/equipment
* £7 for insurance/TV licence
* £10 for clothes.

so probably yes, works out at between £8k & £9k

i spent around £250 a month on expenses other than rent while at ucl..
if you don't buy lots of booze, cigarettes and drugs, bills will be your biggest expenditure. depending on how far away you live, get a monthly bus pass, tube pass or just walk. the cost of the tube pass obviously changes depending on distance. if you live in zone 1, i wouldn't bother with one.

Thats one advantage of living at home and going to a local university :D then I can actually save for my own place while at uni :p :) ... although that was the intention Lol :p
