So.. I was talking to a female collegue the other day and she told me she used to work for one of the water boards.

She said none of the water testers would ever drink the water, and neither would she.

She also said that the quality of our tap water is appalling, and she only drinks bottled.

How is our tap water then?

I know there is a bunch of chemicals added etc etc.

She was 100% adament too.
 
I thought it was supposed to be pretty safe, considering the alternative (bottled), which you also have no idea where it's from/what's been added.
Ours has a quite strong smell of chlorine though :\
 
I like my tap water personally. Dont really care whats in it, as long as its safe to drink and tastes nice :)
 
Sure they tested bottled water to have more crap than tap.

Our water is still quite clean up here, further north its very noticeable that it is fresher (less treated)
 
Well she cited an issue in Wales, where some people got rather ill and noticed side effects from problems removing the estrogen from the supply.

Bottled water, as far as I know, is filtered through huge thick layers of rock, and is supposed to be amazingly clean.
 
My tap water tastes OK unless the water has been standing in a glass for an hour or so. I've got a brita filter though and filter all the water I drink which stops this problem. Mostly though I drink bottled water for convenience, I just pick up a 1.5 litre bottle of water at uni which lasts most of the day.

Sounds to me like re-claimed water.

I remember being told of a story where Estrogen was getting into the water supply and messing up the alligators/crocodiles somewhere.. and that was due to female urine getting into the water.. go figure :o

EDIT - We have our own well here though \o/
 
And its not as if a few germs do you nay harm, they help build your immune system. The reason we have so many people with poor immune systems/ allergies etc. Go get some dirt!
 
She is talking rubbish, I work in the water industry and the final water has to comply with standards set by the drinking water inspectorate (DWI). There are compliance failures of course but these are very quickly rectified as the water company has to perform compliance sampling on a daily basis at the water treatment works. Water treatment in the UK is amongst the best in the world. I drink the water.
 
My cold tap water is OK, but my hot tap water comes out cloudy which if left standing for a few moments it goes clear again. Not a water problem but a problem with the heating system i guess. Anyway, i dont drink hot tap water so its not much of a problem.

I was also under the impression that tap water was better for you as it has minerals in it that bottled does not? Also the bacteria in the tap water should surely help raise the bodies' immunity to diseases?

Yorkshire water is by far the best in the country (or at least all the places i have been in england)

However in norfolk (where i am atm) i have to use a water filter as it just tastes nasty lol

That happens on our cold tap if they have been messing around with the pipes/turned it off. It comes out almost like milk, then settles clear, just air though. :o
 
Water here in Bath is nice, and apparently we could bottle it and sell it as mineral water :p

OT: How come the local Water Treatment Works (the one supplying us clean water, not the sewage works) is a modern slick plant, but has more-less no security and never anyone there?... (No I'm not planning some mass terrorist attack by poisoning or something! :))
