Luton power outages

Anyones lecky in Luton going on and off for a second them coming back on. Done it twice tonight causing my neighbours house alarm to go off for an hour at a time.

Is the outage as long as 1 second? If it's just a brief dip then it's probably caused by a fault elsewhere on the network. The passage for fault current causes a voltage depression across the whole area which wil be seen as a big dip in the lights. More severe dips can cause eg computers to switch off. The first dip would have been the initial fault. Any subsequent sips will be caused by the process of sectionalising the network to find the fault. These subsequent dips SHOULD be less sever because we alter the protection settings to minimise the disruption.

For me the second dip was worse, the first one my pc just stalled for a second , the second time my house went black for about 1 second or perhaps 2 before it came back on

Strange that 2nd would be more severe. Maybe the first fault caused severe damage to apparatus meaning that subsequent reclosures provide lower impedance paths for fault current - greater currents flow and voltage dip is more severe. Could be any number of reasons really.

Yes, I am sure that is the exact reason :p:p

No idea though, maybe it was just my house.... my stuff acting weird... but certainly everything turned off for a second longer for me myself and i.

We had several this morning, each time it was enough to reset my computer - the first was about 7:30ish, the second probably an hour or so later.

Is it me or are they becoming more common again?
I remember when I was younger they were fairly common, then they pretty much stopped around my area for a few years, and now they are happening again (not including the time the builders doing one of the new estates managed to dig through the same cable 3 times in as many days iirc*).

I guess it could be a case of the grid in some areas possibly needing upgrading? (I know in my area they've built several thousand new homes, and don't seem to have done much thinking about how it affects the town in other ways - we've not got additional cops/many additional GP's/dentists considering the number of new houses).

*You would have thought after the first one they would have been a little more careful, and definitely so after the second time (I can just imagine the call to the local electricity board on the third occasion 'Hi it's' 'The builders at X again, i thought it might have been you as it's in your area' 'erm yeah, sorry we've done it again' ;)).

I've heard that our power grid is under capacity and is in pretty dire need of an upgrade soon, but I can't remember if it was serious info.

I live down the road in Leighton Buzzard, and our lights have dimmed several times this evening - not enough to reset the computers though.

I live in leighton buzzard.

The power went this morning, like a power cut for a second turning everything off and straight back on again. probably around 10am.

But as you say, the lights have dimmed several times. not sure whats going on, nothing worth caring about.
