Right since I got myself a nice Panasonic 37” plasma a month ago I fancied getting a PS3 and have been looking at deals in stores and on line.

Someone has offered me this below for a good price.

Is this a good deal.

Been offered a PS3 (40GB) all leads etc

5 months old, (still got 7 months warranty left from store) (I will get the receipt, I presume this will still cover the PS3 with a new owner?)

HDMI lead that cost £35

1 x dual shock controller

12 original boxed games:

Call of duty 4 modern warfare
Metal gear solid 4
Brothers in arms
Call of duty world at war
Tom clancys end war
Rainbow six vegas 2
Far cry 2
Bad company
Gran turismo 5 prologue
Ghost recon 2
Lost
F1 championship edition

All for £300

Is this ok. Only thing that concerns me is the size of the Hard Drive. Or should I not be bothered about that and change it if I want.
Is it worth changing the HD though?

Thanks.

Thought so. Picking it up Thursday evening.

Hope it looks good on my TV. Never played on a PS3 much at all.

The games should keep me busy for a while.

Sounds a good deal, I've got the PS3 with 120GB HDD I think it was, and to be honest I cant ever imagine filling it, the 40GB should be more than enough

I'd snap that deal up

Very good deal. Wouldn't worry about the HDD, 40GB goes a surprisingly long way I've found, but if you find yourself wanting to install all those games at once, it's easy and cheap enough to install a bigger drive anyway.

Exactly, I've read a few guides on the net about installing bigger drive and if you needed it seems easy enough.

The PS3 will look great on your TV, I've got mine hooked upto a 26" LG HDTV and I'm starting to want bigger! Think the gf would kill me though and she'd come out with the "theres nothing wrong with the one I've got" :D:p

You're going to want surround sound set up next :p

I am quite excited as getting this in a couple of days and also off work next week for my motorbike lessons and test. So fun times next week.

Now I will need to buy a PS3 remote I guess and a Blu ray film to see what all the fuss is about.

I have surround sound already so ok there.

Also, when I saw Grand theft Auto on my friends PS3 on a 28" CRT tv it was very hard to read the icons. Will I not get that problem on my TV ?

I couldnt say as I've not played GTA on my PS3, but I did play it on my PC which was connected to a 24" monitor before I sold my PC and I had no problems playing it on there.

Don't bother. Wireless controllers make blu ray remotes a complete waste of money.

Not really, if he's going to be using it for movies a lot a remote will certainly make it easier to use. I've noticed some movies deciding to use a different controller button config for player control too, which is bloody annoying. A remote would avoid that hassle entirely.

Fairplay, I mainly use my PS3 just for movies and I just don't see the need to spend extra money when I have something that does the job perfectly well. :)

I find the remote so much easier for accessing the pop up menus etc.

Remote is a must since they introduced power saving in a firmware update. It gets frustrating having to re-connect your controller every time you simply want to pause the movie. Yes i could turn off power saving but then my DS3 batteries would run out in a matter of days like they used to.

When I pick the PS3 up should I do a reset? and if so how ? would that be better so it is 'fresh' ?

and which game do I play first! :o

Can't see how it'd hurt. You can reset the video settings by simply holding the power button when you switch it on until the PS3 beeps a second time. To reset everything there's a 'system restore' function somewhere in the options menu, this will format the harddrive and reset all settings to default, basically puts it back to exactly how it was when it left the factory.

Game? I'd say MGS4 if you're into your metal gear games. None of the others are all that great other than COD4 (has excessive auto aim on consoles though) GT5:P and F1 challenge imo but i'm picky.

[EDIT] I'd also like to add that guy seems like a bit of a mug. Firstly, he could get way more money than that, secondly, £35 for a HDMI cable?

[EDIT2] Oh and, you sure it's a dualshock controller? The 40gig comes with a sixaxis which doesn't have rumble like the dualshock 3 does. I'd recommend picking up a DS3 if i'm right.

Getting it today. Been into town and brought the Blue Ray remote. A shop did it for £18 for just the remote or £25 with the remote, 3 mtr branded HDMI cable and Casino Royale on Blu Ray. So got that as I dont have any BR films so will be nice to see what all the fuss is about.
