Brake pads replacement .. really?

1k for discs on a vectra, what size are they?

Edit: doesn't matter i've found them, £300 from Cortney sport plus £86 for the pads, thats just a little bit short of 1.6k for the kit?

shame you cant read

But that includes a set of 6-pot calipers as well. Plus hoses. That's were the money is going.

I thought you were talking about the cost of consumable items only.

I think it's a reasonable price too. They'll probably replace wear sensors, and caliper bolts too. It isn't a 10 min job to do properly. They're your brakes for gods sake - pay the money.

Dont they come in the box? Every time ive purchased front pads they have came with new caliper bolts and wear sensors. Anyhoo I would say 35k is pretty good going on a set of pads, going to change mine soon as I have no idea how long they have been on the car.

No. Replacement 345mm discs for the £1600 setup are £800

Replacement 362mm discs for the £2000 setup are more like £1000. The additional 1k goes on the calipers on hoses / pads

Dont get me wrong, im not denying these are extraordinarly expensive, but thats what they cost. The standard items from a dealer are more like £250. And uprated items from courtenay (grooved ones presumably from EBC but not branded) are £300.

Nobody in their right mind would pay £2000 for the AP Kit, when the vectra has 345mm brakes as standard, and a set of £86 yellowstuff pads and £300 grooved discs from courtenay would make more than an ample an upgrade.

I was under the impression the AP setup was the standard disc size and items fitted to the VXR out of the factory, lets face it looking at upgraded brake parts from your VXR vs his standard Porsche part prices is hardly correct.

no sorry

i was merely implying that buying porka parts must be like trying to keep up with the prices for the AP racing stuff.

Seems the AP stuff is even more expensive than porsche, which is a tad laughable.

Its very strange, but then again the amount of replacement discs AP racing must sell has to be rather low, not had chance to fully check the link but is the 345mm AP racing setup based on a Hat and Disc setup, could explain the extra cost if the disc price is for both?

OP, 35k on a set of pads is nothing but magical, i find it odd that people feel things such as brakes should last forever or something!

My pads last about 10 - 15k!

the rear pads are £35 online
the front ones £55?

i really don't know anyone that knows anything about cars sadly ...

Fronts are £35 from Brakes International. 10 minutes a side if you do a plain swap, 30 a side if you are greasing and cleaning the sliders. Job done.

Or you can pay someone £97. Sounds like you'll have to if you don't know anything about cars and don't have any tools.

I know my front pads are nearing replacement and I am slightly mech-savvy. I can get the wheel off and have a look, but how much pad thickness would you have left before you bother to replace the pads?

Good to know thanks ... thats what happens when you are completely clueless, I didn't think they should last forever, I do road bike racing and the break pads last me for around 2k or 3k before they need changing ... those are easier to replace and only £7 a pair sadly!!!

I am going to ask to other garages, a mate of mine has just recommended me one here in Cambs, I will call them tomorrow! :)

ring and ask Courtenay how much a set of replacement rotors are the kit and report back on your findings.

Brake pads for front 35quid+vat, new disk are 30+vat each, new calipers 67quid+vat each from brakes international for a vectra vxr turbo.

If you pay anymore than this you are wasting your money!

we've already agreed this

so i'll ask again, ring courtenay and ask how much a pair of replacement AP rotors are for the 6 pot kit. Im not interested in replacement OE parts. You have the good grace to "LMAO THATS FOR THE CALIPERS AS WELL !!"

So ring them, and find out how much a replacement pair of AP Racing 362mm discs are. They are approximately a grand. Oh and you wont find the price on the website either..

jesus some people need to learn to read
