Hi,
I've got 64bit vista business sp1 and an Asus P5Q with 8gb OCZ reaper RAM installed.

it shows up as 8gb during boot, and when i right click my computer and press properties it says 8gb memory.

However, dxdiag shows up as 3326mb and the performance tab in task manager only reads 4gb

Any ideas or is this normal?

If you are running Vista64 then you should be able to see 8GB in both task manager and dxdiag.

The amount of memory your machine is showing would point towards a 32-bit OS. What does it say under system type when you select properties after right clicking My Computer?

I'd remove a couple of sticks and reboot. Check what's registered. Then replace them and reboot again - might just give it enough of a kick to 'see' them? Used to get probs with a lot of Dell's at work like that, normally solved with reseating the ram... it's worth a try.

Have you enabled the memory remapping in the BIOS?

I got a friend to check this and he said that it is

What does it say when you go to, Contol panel>system?
should give processor and its speed, the ram, and the os

It says 8.0gb in there

thanks ill try that now =]

Took a look at the memory remapping again, it was enabled. I disabled it to see the difference, and cpu-z would now recognise all 8gb, but task manager performance monitor still only sees 3gb

With memory remapping enabled : http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3867/8gbas3gb.jpg
