Thousands of scratches...

Comedy gold.

How deep are the scratches? If they ard hairline, you may be able to polish it out. If not you'll have to replace the glass.

Yeah, they are hairline so I expect they can be polished out. It's the sheer number of them that's the problem I expect. Picture me thinking "god this dirt just won't shift", scrubbing my heart out :(

Just spoke to Autoglass, £374 to replace the windscreen

Also spoke to my dad, he doesn't have a buffing machine, and cursed me even more. Now looking for glass polishers in the Sheffield area...

That'd be fraud though wouldn't it... ;)

why would it ?

you claim on your glass insurance and pay the excess. Remember you pay the excess, so even if somebody else puts your window through, your claiming on it as though its your fault

nowhere in your glass policy will it give conditions under what you can and cant claim for. Just brick them and get them replaced.

Of course it may be cheaper to go down the polishing route, especially if the glass excess is per panel ...

no. Brick your windscreen and claim on your glass insurance. It doesnt effect your NCB and will likely cost you £60 as opposed to £374

Theres nothing in the T&Cs of your insurance that makes stipulations that you cant claim on your glass insurance for accidental damage.

After all, would you be unable to claim if you lost your talent and drove your car into a wall ? thats accidental damage but you can still claim. Difference is you lose your NCB from accidental damage to your car, but not your glass.

Are you not fully comp then?

If you are just smash it. I'd probably do them all and then say its been vandalised.

this

if your really worried about the fraud aspect, we'll send the OcUk hit squad round to do your windows in. We'll even leave the car on bricks for good measure ;)

Haha :D I think I know what I'll be doing this weekend. Any advice for smashing windows without showering the insides with glass?

LOL @ This thread :D

I really wouldn't smash all the windows and claim on your insurance. No really. Don't. Honestly. That would be naughty.

Can't you claim on the insurance as accidental damage? Advising him to smash his windows in is absurd. Like i said, try polishing it first and see how much it improves.

I thort the process for claiming a blown engine was to suck sand through the air intakes to 'polish' the cylinders? :D

I read a great thread on this car cleaning thread on a forum recommending a thick applications of mustard, then buffing it off to fix the scratches.

Do it, then post up the results afterwards, it should work a treat.

he accidentally damaged it already by polishing it with a scouring pad.

He's just changing the nature of the accidental damage to something less embarassing.

By all means tell your insurance co your glass is knackered and that you cant see out of it because you washed it with a pan scouring pad and watch the person at the end of the phone attempt to control their laughter.

alternatively get your windscreen bricked and avoid the embarassment. My conscience would be clear knowing the accidental damage has already been done.
