Hey everyone,
I'm in need of a new board, and since I am going for a full on AMD/ATI gaming setup, I would like the board to have the latest 790FX chipset. Have any of you experts got any reccommendations? I'm not really budgetting at the moment, so give me all you got! Thanks in advance, Chris.

Hey Chicken,
I should've mentioned I'm not really looking at DDR3 yet. I know I should be, but I need a motherboard as soon as possible, and I haven't got enough time or money to put some DDR3 into the budget. I'm in love with OcUK, I always check there for the latest gear. OcUk rule!

Holy moly...I use to have an MSI board...which I actually still use to this day now for my FTP server...but that board you just posted Chicken is sexy as!!! Now I use ASUS mobos but I am finding it hard to get an AM3 board right now...and like Minimoke I am not looking to go DDR3 just yet...as I have 4 sticks of 4GB DDR2 just wanting to be abused constantly...they are housed in an ASUS M2R32-MVP with an AMD 6000+ X2 CPU. so just want to swap those for the PII X4 940 BE and God knows what mobo!! lol...

It definitely looks one hot mother :D

I am looking forward to seeing some reviews, but from what I can gather from reading around, it seems to perform very well also.

Also DDR3 prices don't seem bad at the moment.

Hopefully it should be available to buy soon.
I can't wait (little kiddie mode):D

I am going for a full on AMD
Hey Minimoke,

I've been looking at Motherboards for a socket AM3 system, still can't decide between the AMD® 790FX or 790GX chipset myself! :D

Hi,
This looks the bees knees

Yeah that does look good! :)

Hey guys,
Now thinking about it, I'm very tempted on DDR3. I'm currently using some Kensington performance stuff, but that wasn't that expensive, and I'll scrap my old parts into a new machine anyway. That MSI board is bloody gorgeous, I might buy one just to frame it! That real time overclocking dial sounds interesting, think I'll look into that. Cheers, Chris.

The thing I am curious about in the AMD® 790FX or 790GX debate is does the latter chipset with its onboard IGP hinder or otherwise hold back overclocking in any way?

If not then the AMD® 790GX seems like a great product!

Now thats an interesting look Wayne...even I cannot decide which of those 4 I want to get...why is it so hard right now to pick a mobo to go with a Phenom II??? lol...

I cannot decide
Looking at your sig I don't see why you are looking at DDR2 based boards actually! :)

Q6600 @3.6GHz|ASUS P5Q-E|XFX 4870X2|4GB DDR2

You good with what you have (well 65nm chip is not great but!), if anything I would be looking at the DDR3 aspects!

You could sell your Kentsfield and P5Q-E and pop in an AM3 chip and DDR2 board but that would be silly! :o

So in your boots you should be considering a DDR3 board but AMD® 790FX or AMD® 790GX heh! :p

Hey guys,
What a mi nd boggler! I'm going to spend the extra whatever amount and go for a 790FX board. I'm sure I'll see benefits in the long-run when it comes to performance. I think I'll go for that MSi board, it sure looks the dogs bits :P

I'd be very happy to spend that on a board. I put it quite high up in the most important component ranks. Another question, will my AM2+ Phenom 9950 work on an AM3 board? I know that an AM3 processor will work on an AM2 board, becaues it has less pins, but does an AM3 board have the same amount of pins as an AM3 processor? Just wondering, because I'd rather hang onto my 9950 for a bit longer. But it would go into a nice second system ;) Cheers, Chris.
