Hi guys,

Finally got my g1 loving it so far. As soon as i get a memory card I think ill be flashing it for the jf firmware. One question my G1 shows version 1.0 tc5-rc8 how often does the g1 auto check for updates?

Cheers,

It's pushed rather then check I think. You will be getting a notification there is a update soon. Just click the No button.

The G1 comes with a 2gb memory card

Received this phone yesterday and I'm loving it.

Only tiny annoyance is the delete / enter button being so close when texting. I've sent messages a couple times before I've even finished.

my favorites are:
ASTRO (file browser)
BeyondPod (media feed reader)
digg reader
Meridian Video Player
Picsay (lets you add funny clipart to pics)
ringdroid (edit mp3 files on the phone and use as a ringtone)
snaphoto (better than the built in camera app)
useful switchers (quick way to turn on/off phone functions)
shop savvy (scan in barcodes and see where you can buy them cheaper online)
youtube downloader (the built in youtube app plays poor quality mp4 conversions, still converted to mp4 with this but better quality)

Just received mine yesterday, any essential apps people can recommend.

Ive been usomg Gmte - How cool is that?

Thats the list of apps I made to reinstall after I rooted my phone. They're not all essential but some like speaking pad are pretty cool. Toggleblu, togglegps and toggle wifi are all 1 click options to enable/disable their respective feature and come in VERY handy, or toggle settings does the same thing but takes a couple of clicks and also gives you quick access to other handy features.

Got the RC9 update on Friday and am very disappointed with it. No real differences, no latitude, on OS keyboard.
I rooted it and installed the JF RC9 which at least has auto rotate on it.
Poor show T-Mobile UK.

Got the RC9 update on mine a few days ago and am absolutely DELIGHTED to find out that the agenda view in Calendar now displays dates in the US format (month first), regardless of region/time/date settings overall. Nice one T-Mobile!

On the plus side, since getting mine last month, I've converted 3 additional people to the Android cause! We've got 1 iPhone user at work and everyone who's seen it goes "ooh, that's cool" and then doesn't buy one.... 10 minutes with the G1 and 3 new users is pretty good going I'd say.

No way to convert back to miles and use UK dates? Hopefully T-Mobile will roll out a new patch soon if this really does prove to be an issue. Not impressed, to be honest!

Had mine for a week or so...

My girlfriend and housemate have both just got this phone too, it's spreaaaading!

My Dad loves the novelty apps. I like the "Bring on the trumpets" soundboard one lol. Psycho is cool.

Just a shame about the battery life. Dads always saying about how it only just lasts him a day. He uses his phone a lot for calls during the day. Just a bit a of a bummer.

Yeah battery life does suck, I'm half tempted to pick up a 2nd battery?

If I'm out though, half the time I'm at uni near a PC, so I sometimes carry my usb cable with me. And if I'm at home it's nearly always plugged into my laptop.
