Metallica Tour - Feb/March 09

Hmmm, it all sounds a bit negative. Here's hoping the NEC gig on the 25th is better.

I appreciate what Gaijin is saying, but I think a band like Metallica require at least a substantial contingent of rowdy bar stewards to make the experience worthwhile. They're that sort of band.

I wouldn't say either moshing or not is right, it's a concert, do what you want to do to have a good time.

But to criticise because some people just want to stand there and watch the concert I don't think is on. Some people don't particularly want to be pushed about.

I will agree that it was a bit muted there last night, I think Muse in Dublin was more boisterous, and that speaks volumes.

The problem wasn't the complete lack of moshing, although it is nice to have the option if you are so inclined, it was the complete rigidity of the crowd. I moved around a couple of times and it was the same everywhere. Everyone bar a few just stood there completely still, not even a bit of jumping up and down or anything like that. I have never been to a metal concert like it in my life. Jumping, headbanging, screaming are all part of the fun. Some people looked at me like I was possessed after doing a bit of jumping up and down.

The last two Metallica gigs I went to were the complete opposite. It was an absolute mosh fest. Maybe my expectations tainted my experience but judging solely by the crowd, Bing Crosby could have been on that stage last night.

As for the sound, it seemed as if it was rigged in favour of the seated audience. I did vary my position back and forth and it was never really loud enough in any of them. Although, I suppose after seeing Motorhead in a very small venue, nothign will ever be loud enough again :D


I know it all sounds negative but it was a bloody good concert. It's great to see Metallica back on form too. I nearly cried when I seen them on the St. Anger tour but last night's gig has restored my faith. I'd love to see them again in a cosier venue.
 
purchased the FLAC recording of the Manchester gig for my daughter last night, got goose bumps all over again.. sounds is fantastic and weighs in at 900mb

I was next to the unofficial mush and push pit that sprang up at the Sheffield gig, 30-40 guys going crazy. All was fine until a couple of folk went in with the intention of causing injury. Concert was amazing and defo worth the wait.

Can I just second that, Newcastle was incredibly tame. I really think it's down to the centre stage and the fact it was a Tuesday night. I've seen Metallica twice at festivals and it was mayhem both times.

At least I know The Prodigy next month will be far from static, I nearly died last time, was awesome.

Couldn't see all around the stage from on the floor, obviously, but were you standing on the corner of the stage, nearest to where we were allowed to enter the floor area? I was stood directly to the left of the 'push pit' that was happening round there. Wouldn't have minded except when I was watching the stage I kept getting shoved onto and standing on people to my left, and kept having to apologise!

Whats the quality like on that? I want to buy it but dont want to buy it and be disappointed. Can you hear the crowd at all? If its anything like the live binge and **** then i will buy it. :)
 
the 5 or so I've had have always been superb quality as they take them straight from the sound desk.
 
They also have a microphone on stage to capture the sound from the crowd and the PA - a soundboard only recording would sound very 'raw' and different from what you'd expect to hear from a live performance. Think they use a combination of the two for the recordings.

its excellent, you can even hear the bass !!!!

you can hear the crowd quite clearly throughout, specially on Nothing else Matters ... glad i paid the extra for the FLAC version as its incredibly good quality..

some funny moments on there like after Cyanide finishes and James comments on how good it was cept for 'someone ****ing up the solo' naming no names !! haha
 
I downloaded the FLAC from the Wembley gig in 2007 and the quality was fantastic, unlike being there which was too basey and I couldn't understand some of the stuff.

The o2 however, the sound was fantastic (as was the free beer :) )

The crowd was tame through the support acts, but was jumping and moshing through Metallica.

Free beer, excellent sound and a moshing crowd....were you at a different concert to the one I was at?

Nope, though I was in hospitality courtesy of O2 :)

As mentioned you were on the floor, where the speakers were high up, my only complaint with the sound was James vocals in the first few songs which sounded terrible, but seemed to be rectified by the sound engineers quite quickly.

Bloody annoyed I couldn't get a ball though..

I was behind the sound desk and the steps to get up onto the stage. If you were on the same side i was directly opposite to you apologising to people on my right :D
 
Hetfield was taken into hospital for health problems a few days ago, they had to cancel the Stockholm gig..

"Tonight's second show in Stockholm has been cancelled due to James falling ill and receiving medical attention at the hospital. The show WILL be rescheduled sometime this spring, so keep watching this space for more details. We apologize to all our fans who have travelled from near and far and we look forward to coming back soon."

due back to play 3 final dates in UK from 25th to 28th March, lets hope they dont have to cancel the final 3 uk dates this month !

Was in Glasgow last night:D Brilliant gig !!!!

Bruised ribs though,was right on the rail at the front. So a bit sore today.......but well worth it,they kicked ass & it was mental

managed to get one of lars drumstix,well chuffed. Trapped under ice,never seen that coming
