how bad is the cap and how fast is the actual dl? im on Be* and I get a 21mbit sync, about 2700kbps.
but my bro has ntl 20mbit and he says he gets dire speeds after 5pm

All depends where you live my speeds on 20m virgin are fantastic 2.33mbs apart from the stm, they don't have a cap as such just restrict what you can use between certain hours, atm it kicks in at 10am-3pm(6 gig) and 4-9(3 gig) download after those times you can pretty much dl as much as you want, they are revising the stm atm it will end up as 4-9pm weekdays restricted but ok rest of time, weekend will end up the same as the cap that's running now.

If you getting that sort of speed on be i would stay where you are tbh why would you want to bother moving anything over 20m speeds is just over kill.

If you're on o2/Be and getting decent speeds I really, really recommend that you don't switch. Unless you like STMs, which are destined to happen on 50mbit sooner or later.

i wouldn't switch over to cable as unless you were stuck at say under 15Mbp. as above stick to Be as switching would be a possibly bad idea...

I heard they were rolling a stm out on 50meg when all the areas had been upgraded for it, as said above the stm ain't a issue at all if you use your connection around it.

The cap/throttleing will be introduced at a later date, the speeds are a local issue, i get 2400k most of the time other than stm, maybe 6-8pm might be a little slower (1500k) on weekdays

if you get a decent speed on ADSL leave it be. You might get faster speeds on Virgin but not until out of hours, so in practical terms if you want a DVD ISO you can probably get hold of it sooner on your ADSL.

If i've got to have thottling/caps, then Virgin's solution is the best i've seen so far. I get the speeds I pay for (10Mb/s) 24/7, It's easy to schedule big downloads overnight, and even if you do need to download something big in the daytime being capped to 25% normal speed isn't that much of a burden. 2.5Mb is plenty for browsing and streaming flash videos, i wouldn't even be certain I could tell the difference.
If you're on 50Mb even when caps come in, they'll be big enough that nothing will hit them short of a 1080p movie download or a full game on Steam, and being limited to 12.5Mb after the majority of it has come down isn't going to hurt at all.

I'm running 20mb Virgin Media and 12mb O2 ADSL and I use the O2 as my primary connection, this is because VM randomly slows down or the speed jumps up and down making online gaming impossible.

If I was getting 20mb from the ADSL and wasn't having issues (besides the odd fibre break) I would keep it and drop my VM if it wasn't so cheap, as it stands for so little cost I may as well keep it.

Fibre.

Haven't BT been working on fibre to premises for a while now?

From other forums, 50meg is cack for pings, cack for gaming and generally rarely anywhere close to 50meg.

Having said that, since they launched it, my 20meg has been super speedy 90% of the time.
