Xclamp repair kit...

Mine's currently dead in a drawer, but I dunno whether it's worth trying to fix it as I did more than a few towel tricks to revive it :p

i think after doing the fixes the best way is to run a game in a loop that will push it if it keeps doing it.

last time i ran Gear of war and let it loop.

ping 17 test is getting done now

It's always worth trying, what have you got to lose? :)

The money I spend on the kit and the tools? ;)

Nah I should try it really, it's just me being lazy and not being arsed to source the correct info and places to buy the items required.

You're right though it's not a lot to lose and a hell of a lot to gain a 360 back :D

Mr DreXeL do you have an in depth guide to X-Clamp fix?

My Orig console came back today fine, but i have my modded PAL console suffering from E74

TBH there are hundreds of guides out there, google will give you hundreds of results.

I may write my own guide when I can be arsed :o

I always find that the guides have different versions of what to do, what guide did you use originally - before i cook my 360 and eat it for dinner!

I didn't actually use any online guides, I followed the guide that came with the RROD kits that I was buying before I bought all my parts in bulk.

TBH there isn't really much to it, any of the guides should give the same results. Just be slow and methodical and you'll be fine

My concern with the oven bake fix is the potential for hazardous chemicals to be released in to the oven, think about the next thing you cook and eat after. Is there any lead used in the 360? I know this is especially toxic when eaten or inhaled.

Also I'd caution anybody to wear eye protection when removing it from the oven in case a capacitor did explode, could easily blind you.

Sounds like very sensible advice...

micro wave might be a better option TBH...:D

my 360 is still running, with out crashing (been playing games on it for the past 3 hours or so.

but now it would have locked up within about 5 mins. the fans also run quieter but seem to shift more air aswell.

i used to have the fan duct all taped up over the heat sinks etc - is it actually worth doing that.

There actually some good points, but I believe the 360 is lead-free, hence the problem with solder points being a bit brittle in the long term after hundreds of heating and cooling cycles

Just to resurrect an old thread.. my box died with an RRoD (3 lights) a few days ago, several months out of warranty :-(

Took it to pieces, wrapped it in foil and baked it as per the instructions, then did the XClamp mod with an auction kit, and 3 hours of gaming later it seems to be working pretty well (touch wood!)

Thanks for the idea guys, saved me forking out for a new one :-)
