...picked up the 328i today (finally, after some faffing about), and 2 miles down the road "BOOM" and ringing in my ears.

My first thought was, the engine has blown up, but then I looked to my left, sodding great crack in the screen. It's about 6-8inches in diameter and spirals outwards from a central clean piece of glass about 1 cm in diameter.

Luckily it was only on the outerside of the screen, got the car home safe and sound, although a deer did think it sensible to run across the road in front of myself and another driver, but I didn't hit it.

Gave AutoGlass a call to see how much they'd charge out of sheer interest, £389 because I have an RAC policy, insurance it is, £70 windscreen excess is much nicer, especially as AutoGlass can't fix it for another week at least. :rolleyes:

So, who else has great luck?

I got a stone trapped between shield and disc again today - this is the second time in as many weeks. Fortunately it came out with some to-ing and fro-ing.

I've never, ever had it happen on any of my other cars.

I've hit two. And the other week I was in my friends car and three ran out in front of me him that night. I'm jinxed.

No. It's dark, slightly cold, and I'm lazy.

Will grab some shots tomorrow, at least of the windscreen and it's lovely pattern.

Everyone will hate it mind as it's not a Sport, but at the price I got it for, there really is no problem.

I had this on my last BMW. Must be the design. Made some really horrible noises and I was quite worried until I found out what it was! :eek:

My car never used to use ANY oil at all... the dipstick didn't move between oil changes (and I drive the car pretty hard). Driving over to the unit today with the new turbo in hand ready to be fitted, while sitting in traffic after leaving the motorway I notice lots of blue smoke coming out of my exhaust :eek:

Oh god, it was bad! Wanting to get moving again I slip out of the traffic and take another route, yet everytime I come to a stop and dip the clutch there's a huge cloud of smoke and I can see the people behind becoming more and more annoyed.

Over the next few miles to the unit it's getting worse, it starts smoking pretty much constantly... and it's not just the odd wisp here and there, there's loads of it. The people behind me are keeping way back! I started thinking the worst... piston rings!

I could have cried!

Anyway, fast forward a few hours later (I've only just got home actually!) and the new turbo is on and the car ready to be started. Left the car idling while checking for leaks and all seems good. Drove the 40 miles back to the flat with my flatmate following, even give it a bit of the loud pedal and all seems fine! No reports of any smoke or nasty smells!

What the hell caused the old turbo to let go in such a big way today leaves me totally confused. I checked the oil before I set off and it hadn't moved a mm.

Another lucky escape was again, on the way to the unit to fit my alloy radiator a few months back. Left the flat and the old rad was holding coolant just fine. Get to the unit and the radiator decides it's had enough and dumps its contents onto the road in front of me! No warning at all!

Old cars eh? Who'd have 'em?

Give Auto Windscreens a call, they're the ones that used to be owned by the RAC group not Autoglass

Yeah, I was quite impressed, annoyed too.

A stone got thrown up from a lorry in front, going along at like 40mph or something, so impact of the stone from the lorry's wheel was rather high, must have been a biggun although the actual impact point is very small (in the centre of the clear patch).

Yeah, I gave them a bell too, as I have RAC cover, £189 or something for it. Will go the insurance route, as that's what windscreen cover is for, plus £70 is much nicer than any other price.

Love mine thus far, I'm going to have to be REALLY careful, I found myself wafting along @ 95 earlier, having just jumped from a Mondeo TD to the 328, I think its time to start paying attention to the speedo a bit more!
