Goldeneye 64

I didn't think Perfect Dark was bad at all

Granted i preferred Goldeneyes single player mode more but Perfect Darks multiplayer surpassed Goldeneyes in every way.

It was a shame the GB camera option in Perfect Dark was removed :(

It's called growing up. The vast majority loved Goldeneye in their childhood, games aren't the same when you're older. It takes a hell of a lot for me to get excited over new games now, compared to not being able to sleep for weeks when I heard I was getting an N64 and Goldeneye for my birthday as a young'un :p

Apart from I had an N64 with Goldeneye at uni when I was about 19, still loved it. Still got the N64 in the loft too and Goldeneye is worth a blast every now & again, feels a bit awkward after the likes of COD4 like.

Why is this game talked about so much?

Because it took fps as we knew them and dragged them two or three generations into the future in one foul swoop. After playing the likes of Quake it was a utter breath of fresh air. I really can't think of a single fps that has done as much for the genre, and even today there are elements that GE introduced that current fps fail to do as well - like bodies that actually react to being shot and a decent arsenal of inventive and fun weapons/gadgets.

Having four people crammed around the N64 playing Golden Eye was just about the most fun ive ever had playing any game. The maps and weapons made for almost endless combinations of fun ways to take out your mates.

Never got on with the single player in Perfect Dark but i found the mp game to be superb, even better weapons than Goldeneye and being able to throw the various bots in was brilliant.

Bump...
Got given an N64 from a mate at work today with Goldeneye and Mario64, hadn't played it in a good few years. Dear God... I am absolutely dire with those controls now. Just feels so weird, I've always used the Solitaire controls but inverted or normal y-axis both feel awful, it'll take some learning. Ugh.

Had a l'il fun with this on the Project 64. Incredibly nostalgic. I don't think I'll ever enjoy my gaming as much as I did on the 64 - at least not in the same, naive way :) . I presume we're all well aware of this.

the only thing that annoyed me was that you couldn't use the phantom in multiplayer. that was my favorite gun too :(

i played this a few weeks ago on my pc with an emu. it wasn't bad, but i think that perfect dark topped it to be honest.. still, an awesome classic, wouldn't fancy playing it non stop these days though :p

In 2007 I bought an N64 with GE from ebay in OZ for about £20, while I was working in Sydney. Bought mario kart and mario 64 too and played them nearly every night during winter.

It broke my heart when I left and had to sell it :(

All were still very playable, so it shows how good they were back in the day. GE did look dated compared to what you remember, but that's to be expected.

Goldeneye is my favourite game of all time. It had it all, fantastic single player & amazing multiplayer. How could you not love four player's, LTK on the facility with pistols & auto aim off, awesome:)
The graphics might not of aged well & the fps dips are annoying but the playability is still there. Recently started playing Goldeneye source which is great, its only a beta but it allows you to play goldeneye's multiplayer with hi def graphics online against other people what more could you want lol.

ive sitll got my hong kong n64. im never giving that up. youve not played goldeneye (or perfect dark for that matter) untill youve played the ntsc versions. both of them were much snappier than the pal equivilents.
