Hi , ive just upgraded my 6400 geil ULL ram to some kingston pc2-8500 stuff (4Gb)

So i entered bios and changed my settings 8x400mhz (3.2ghz) with the memory multiplier at 2.0

i lowered the cpu clock ratio to 6 and host frequency to 533 which should be just under 3.2ghz i though my pc would boot as its been running at 3.2 for well over 12months,ive obviously done summat wrong, can you plz look at my screens shots and tell me what ive done wrong, thanks :)

the ram is currently running fine at 8*400mhz but want to run it at the higher speed obvioulsy

Put the settings back to as they were, 400 x 8, and set the memory divider to the value that puts the memory speed closest to 533mhz (1066) as possible. This will depend on what divider values you've got available to you. 2.5 'frinstance will give you 500mhz (1000mhz) memory speed. This will underclock the memory slightly but it should run fine, (I've been running my ocz pc8500 at 400mhz (800ddr) for moths now).
You can then try upping the fsb to 425mhz, that'll get your memory up to a whisker under 533mhz (1066ddr mhz) and should get the cpu to 3.4ghz (if my maths is correct):)

hhmm just been test the RAM and not sure what to think, i reckon maybe my motherboard or ram doesnt like running around 1000mhz

Ive been pushing it so i tried 500mhz (x2) x 7 = 3.5ghz on the CPU and the machine wouldnt post at all

then i tried 438x8 = 3.5ghz and it booted then ran 3dmark without any issues

so the cpu can handle the speed ,that leaves the mobo or ram wont run around the 500mhz mark

I did try a divider of 2.5 as suggested it was summat like 425x2.5 (1063) x8 = 3.4ghz and the pc posted but 3dmark 06 crashed

I had another look at your screenies and noticed you haven't increased the "MCH" (northbridge) or "FSB" voltages. I'd suggest you increase both of these by +0.1v or maybe even +0.2v as you're fsb is way above stock now. Also you might have to increase Vcore to around 1.4v-1.425v but yiou're now in the realms of having to watch your idle and load temps, what cpu cooler have you got installed?
Incidentally, 438 mhz fsb (3.5ghz) aint too shabby and I'd have thought 3.6ghz would be about the max reallistically attainable.

hi again pieman , i have a noctua and a antec 900-2 case so temps are really quite low atm idle @ 31c (1.425v) not checked at load temps yet

will increase MCH and FSB voltages and see what happens , thx for your input so far :)
