I Can Haz Achievements? - Achievements on the Xbox 360

It's like a high score system, you wan't to get more gamepoints in some games than your friends. I always used to play tetris trying to beat my highscore over and over which means I'm exactly the same on the 360 as I want to get higher than my friends.

It's a fantastic system that allows longevity in games and allows people to get more out of them.

I would've thought sony would have implemented it better, but the trophy case does sound interested. If Home ever launches.

I think Achievements are an absolute stroke of genius.

Not only is there the "high score" fever previously mentioned, but I find that lots of them actually give me purpose and something to aim for when I'm playing the games, not to mention the replay value.

Haven't had over 13k or so since I got a 360 in 2005, that's across 3 accounts.

Not that bothered really. I get more enjoyment out of multiplayer achievements which a lot of games don't bother with. (or barely have any of, compared to single player)

I like the Street Fighter IV achievements/trophys though.

I'm fully addicted now. A good achievement list can make me buy/rent a game that I was only semi-interested in before.

Stroke of marketing genius!

I've had my xbox for a while, but never really had that many games, although lately I have got the GS bug, specially since I've been renting a lot of games. Sometimes I end up finishing games for the GS. I hate games where the achievements are sparese or difficult to get, or based on a multiplayer mode that no one plays.

I prefer the PS3 trophy system, ie with the 4 ranks of trophies and levels as opposed to the rather simple and less rewarding MS gamer points thing, but apart from that they are the same and both have the same effect - I want more!

You will get bored of them eventually.

T.

Actually even after all this time that the 360 has been out, I still find it to be the overwhelming factor (along with the pad) between deciding to get the PS3 version or a 360 version of a game. I personally find the Trophy system pointless and a bolted on afterthought.

Achievements are great, and they will be even better if they evolve into unlocking extra items in games or the dashboard as standard.

If your hooked now, your hooked for life!

I was hooked on 5k, 10k, 15k, 25k, 35k,45k,50k and im now on just shy of 52k.

I love achievements, its the best thing since slice bread, yeah I find my self sometimes playing games that I have already milked and 1000g like COD4/COD5/FIFA etc, but every now and then I get an urge to go on an achievement rampage! :)

I had a PS3, and the trophies just didnt do it for me, just a poor copy cat of the achievements!

(PS, you know where your hooked on Achievements, when you hear the achievement sound randomly, when your no where near a 360!)

This.

Whilst trophies have levels to gain, there's no way of aiming for them as far as I'm concerened. You can't tell how many trophies you need to get the next level, so all you can do is just grind them.

At least with achievements you know exactly how far you've got to go and can work out what you need to do.

I'm just hunting down my 30K now. :)

You know youre addicted to achievements when you hear the noise and look for what you've achieved and to your dissapointment its just a friend logging in or something :)

I'm addicted to them a bit at the mo - only had xbox since xmas - hope it dies down eventually but I can still enjoy the best games purely for the experience such as Gears 2. On the other hand I find I dislike games with harsher acheiv sysems like lost planet colonies!

I'm sorry but I just started playing TF2 on the PC.

Achievements are much better on it

You can choose to have achievement progress display on the HUD when you are playing the game and when you have so many you unlock new items for the class. On the 360 I don't care much for them now because I get nothing out of them. But Valve give you a reason to get them which is nice.

I'm still a 360 fanboy though. Just Valve games are much better than on the 360.

I seriously doubt it.

MS Achievements are pure genius, adds more reply value as you will want to get the cheevos and (in my case) decides what (multi) format to get games for.

i've just got 3 achievements in the past week on Crackdown, first time i've played it since o7. only 1 more green orb and 2 more blue orbs to get for another 2 achievements.;)

yes indeed, genius.
