I feel depressed because the negatives far outweigh the positives on earth. Life revolves around money, working yourself into the ground and trying your best just to stay afloat. It's survival of the fittest, and often nastiest. The news is full of sad stories, how many people were killed, how we are heading for a depression etc. The only things in life worth living for are being around your family, making other people happy, looking at nature in all of its glory and making sure that you are remembered as a nice and genuine person when you are gone. I often look up into the night sky at all of the stars and wonder why we are even here:confused: It's a daunting prospect to even consider what will happen to us, as a person, when we die. I think the majority clinical depression stems around our own existence.

i havent slept properly for maybe 6 months, seriously! i get about 4 hours sleep a night, the rest is tossing and turning! a few years ago suffered depression in a different form (due to breaking up from my ex) , but i got through it

Depression is very similar to simple mourning, which is why it is too hastily diagnosed in some cases.

What exactly is it that's keeping you awake? Does it feel like your brain just simply won't turn off, or are you dwelling far too much on unhealthy fantasies?

For practical advice: Cut out all caffeine by 6pm, eat healthier and exercise more. Make sure you go to bed at a set time and remove any electrical equipment such as your PC from the bedroom.

Invest in some good books and a soft light. Sometimes reading can help you fall asleep.

Get yourself to a (good) doctor, get assessed and diagnosed. Get yourself on meds and into therapy. Meds and therapy on their own won't work, in combination you'll find they do wonders but it won't be over quickly.

Indeed. This is well into being a medical thread. See your GP.
